Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 One of my favorite lines from a book, comes from the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Lucy asks their new friend Mr. Beaver, "Is he safe? " inquiring about this king they had heard of named Aslan. Mr. Beaver, pithy an- swer, "Oh no he's not safe, but he's good." Sometimes I won- der if we are just hoping that life in Christ will be safe. We can come to him, get salva- tion, feel good, and eventual- ly go to heaven when the time comes. However, that's rare- ly the case. Imagine the rich young rule or the other young man who came begging to fol- low Jesus, but once confront- ed by the reality that the fol- lowers of Jesus lacked a bed and shelter, or even that one VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. John Manges, Minister WINSLOW CHRISTIAN CHURCH Corner of Lafayette and Walnut Pastor 812-753-3539 Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; We extend a warm welcome to everyone. Dr. Robert Asa, Minister would have to sell everything he had. The truth is, following Jesus wasn't safe then, and it isn't safe now. Still to this day when he calls a man, he bids him, come and die. Following Jesus means actively dying to ourselves and living for him. We have to decide that there is no safe shallow end follow- ing him. To enjoy a rich life in Christ, we have to cut the rope. "Prejudice or hatred of any person because of their ra- cial ethic or religious back- ground is wrong. God labels it as sin. A fter all, God created every one of us, and when we hate someone who is different from us, we are hating some- one whom God has made and who is valuable in His sight. Every human being is created in God's image, and although sin has blurred that image in all of us, every single one of us still bears the mark of our Cre- ator. "I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live" (Psalm 116:1,2). There is a beautiful thought picture that goes through the mind when reading these two verses. It starts with a lost soul crying out to God in re- pentance, and our precious heavenly Father bending low with his ear turned to the cry of the lost, hearing and an- swering that cry. At that mo- ment, when He inclined His ear unto that lost soul, His ear continued to listen. He never stopped listening. The psalmist realized this truth and said "Therefore will I call upon Him as long as I live." Pe- ter understood this truth also when he wrote, "The eyes of the Lord are over the righ- teous, and His ears are open PIKE COUNTY CENTER FOR WOMEN'S MINISTRIES Phone —812-582-8222 Office hours: Open Mon- day and Friday, 9 a.m. till noon; Thursday open from 6 - 8 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednes- day closed. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness and the offer- ings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the Lord as in days gone by as in former years" (Malachi 3: 1-4).
