Stam John the Baptist introduced our Lord with the proclamation: "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand" (Matt.3:2). Throughout His earthly ministry Christ was known as "the Son of David", the king with whom God made a covenant to establish His Kingdom forever. The Old Testament prophets predicted that Christ would — and He will — reign on earth upon the throne of His father David. While His Kingdom was being proclaimed "at hand", He walked and talked and ate with men as "the Son of Man". Wearied with traveling, He sat at Jacob's well and asked for a drink of water. Pressed by the throng, He got into a fishing boat and addressed the multitudes from the The family, church, government and cul- ture help determine our destiny as a nation. A wise person once said, "Whoever controls our schools rules the world." This statement is easier to understand as we learn more about the Arab nations and Muslims, in particular. The philosophy of the classroom in this gen- eration will be the philosophy of the next gen- eration. Our founding fathers understood a val- ue-based education. That's why, after build- ing homes and churches, they built schools. They soon established educational institutions like Harvard, Yale and Columbia to educate the mind and promote Christian faith. Now most of these once great institutions are a hollow shell of the values and faith they once taught. Today most institutions think facts, not charac- ter, are what build a good society. The human- ists took advantage of our spiritual apathy and gradually shaped and took control of our edu- cational institutions. Our schools have been used as a vehicle for so- cial change. Covid-19 and political socialism may be America's great- est enemy. The war of ideas is fought in the classroom. It is here that absolute truth, the Bible, and values are destroyed. Christians should be se- rious about protecting the minds and hearts of our children. In my opinion, children should learn disci- pline, values, respect and honesty while they are learning math, science and other import- ant facts. If we are to change America we must put God back in our schools. The Ten Com- mandments never caused shootings in our schools or drug addiction. Parents need to be informed and involved in the future of our beloved America. Another week has passed us by and it has been quite an entertaining one. I suppose I should first say hello to all the readers of this column. Monday we woke up to a new snow and it was a little one so we were still being spoiled by not having too many troubles, but Tuesday we were welcomed by slick conditions. We were facing a drive to Vincennes Good Samaritan Hospital to get her first Covid vaccination. We made the drive and it was a slow one. On our return trip the highways were much clearer and easier to drive on. The Weather Channel has been forecast- ing a significant weather event for this com- ing week. I hope they are blowing it up because they have made it sound as though it will be a crippling event. Next Thursday, I am due for my second Covid vaccination and the weather forecast- ers have me a little concerned about the vac- cination center being closed and the drive to the hospital. On another note this week I was waiting on my wife to come from the Jay-C Store and in the short time I was waiting I noticed three cars and trucks having difficulty parking in the 90 degree spaces. Just as a suggestion do you suppose the parking spaces could be re- marked and laid out with angle parking so the spaces would be easier to get into and out of. Hopefully this will fall on understanding ears and eyes, so maybe when the opportunity pres- CHURCH CHURCH Notes Notes Notes Baptist Baptist Baptist Assembly of God RIVER OF LIFE 342 E. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them, and you will have a long life on the earth" (Ephesians 6:2,3,4). Children and parents have a responsibility to each oth- er. Children should honor their parents, even if their parents are demanding. Parents should gently care for their children, even if the children are disobedi- ent and unpleasant. Fable of the Porcupine It was the coldest winter ever. Many animals died be- cause of the cold. The por- cupines, realizing the situ- ation, decided to group to- gether to keep warm. This way, they covered and pro- tected themselves. But the quills of each one wounded their closest com- panions. A fter a while, they decided to distance them- selves one from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen. So they had to make a choice: Either ac- cept the quills of their com- panions or disappear from the earth. Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. They learned to live with the little wounds caused by the close relationship with their com- panions in order to receive the warmth that came from the others This way they were able to survive. The best relationships are not the ones that bring to- gether perfect people, but GR ACE G.B. CHURCH 1007 E. "Be ye kind one to anoth- er, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you" (Ephesians 4:32). Jesus said, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another" ( John 13:35). Dwight Howe, Pastor Karri Brock, Reporter and love. This will happen if both parents and children will put the other's interest above their own. That is, if they submit to one another. The purpose of paren- tal discipline is to help chil- dren grow, not to exasperate and provoke them to anger or discouragement. Parent- ing is not easy. It takes a lot of patience to raise Children in a Christ-honoring manner. This is vital to the child's de- velopment and their under- standing of what Christ is like.
