EVENTS February 17-Ash Wednes- day. February 22-George Wash- ington's birthday. March 4-Winslow Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m. with the monthly meal at the Gam- ble's house to start off anoth- er year of serving our commu- nity. Winslow and Petersburg se- niors will not meet again un- til Governor Holcomb gives the okay. Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598 received no post- cards or notes of interest this week. The Winslow Patoka Riv- er was to the rim the last time we talked and since then, we have gotten over three inch- es of snow and sleet on top of that. South of us didn't get that much snow, but sleet was more in the Kentucky ar- ea. Since Sunday of the big game, our temps have been below 30 degrees and over- night the temps range from the middle 20s to the lower teens. The wind chill has felt a lot colder, with north winds of five to 20 mph. Our town workers, Nathan and Norm, have done some fine work as they scraped the streets and laid sand, even late at night, to help our neighbors find their way to Highway 61, which the county has cleared. Over the weekend of Feb. 13 and 14, temps were colder than the week, from 20s in the daytime to single digits at night. I hope on Valentine's Day, you cud- dled up with your loved one. The bluejays are here with some smaller birds of this season and our squirrel was seen digging up nuts in the snow-covered ground. I hav- en't heard the coyotes, but I know they are still around the area. Saturday, Feb. 6, was pretty nice, but chilly, and before the bad weather started, Norm wanted to do something. So, he got out the lawnmower and push mowed a part of the thick grass around the barn on the new lots. It did look nice, but since the snow is here, the mow- er will have to stay covered for awhile longer. Norm and I got our sum- mer sausage and snacks for the big game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buc- caneers. This was a good day to stay inside and watch all the pre-game shows all afternoon, and then the game with the new commercials and the half- time entertainment. The sec- ond half started off with a lit- tle excitement that was shown on the Monday morning news, a man in a hot pink body suit. I'm glad he wasn't seen during the game and he shouldn't wear that type of body suit anywhere. The game was in- teresting as the Chiefs tried to score more points, but the Buccaneers won 31-9. Those Christmas deco- rations are still around, but they are on top of houses and I can see why they are still up there, because of the wind, cold temps, snow and ice. You can see Santa in his sleigh with eight tiny reindeer and a big blow up dachshund (wie- ner dog) that has come off the rooftop and is about to slide down the roof. Since the ice has come south of here, one family has sat out their dec- orations again to light up the beautiful icy scenery. When I said I would like more days of cold temps to kill the varmints, I didn't think that we would get this weather so soon and to get the freezing temps we have. There is more to come next week, but like the weath- er guy said, "It's February." Laura works in Washing- ton at night, so for a few nights, she had to drive 40 mph or less because of the snow and especial- ly the ice-covered roads on Highways 61 and 57. Norm refreshed her memory of what to do when sliding and stopping, and she did great, but those iron steps were a problem. Ava is a 4-wheel drive and has helped Norm out there for weeks on the side roads and he loves that auto start on these colder days. February 12 started the Lu- nar New Year, which is also the Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the Ox and Metal. Another date was Feb- ruary 16 with the celebration of Mardi Gras. The third date was February 14, Valentine's Day, and we hope you all had a great day to be with the ones you love. Since there hasn't been much going on in the area and we haven't been out that much, it's time to dim the lights for this week. Keep an eye on fam- ily and friends. Slow down and see all the wonders in your area, don't be in such a hur- ry. Wear your mask for oth- ers' safety and keep your dis- tance. As always, smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone you see this week. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS Leslie J. Spurlock Willis and Jana R. Spurlock convey to Timothy M.
