B-4 Wednesday, Januar y 13, 2021 The Press-Dispatch Methodist Lutheran Church of Christ Catholic Independent Independent Church of God Continued on the next page Christian Continued in next column Church Note Deadline 10 a.m. Tuesday following morning worship. "Without faith, it is impossi- ble to please God, for whoever would approach him must be- lieve that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him" (Hebrews 11:6, NRSV ). We spend a lot of our time trying to please people, wheth- er it's a tidy house, a delicious meal, a great birthday pres- ent, etc. Sometimes this is how we approach God, trying to please by doing all the right things, but the Bible tells us it is impossible to please God without faith. What is faith? It is a belief in your heart and a confession with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord. It is not what you do to please God, but a heart that is willing to follow him. We are remembering in prayer those who have lost loved ones, those who are battling illnesses and don't forget to pray for our country. We know we have a God who is in control. We invite you to worship with us at any of our services. Mark Wade,Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Thomas Carlyle once said, "Our main business is not to see what lies dimly in the dis- tance, but to do what lies clear- ly at hand." Most of us spend this time of year overestimating what we will or what we want to accom- plish this year. But most of us vastly underestimate the trans- formation that will take place in five years if we are commit- ted to the daily, small, habits, that lead us to be more like Je- sus. C.S. Lewis was right, we are all either becoming more like Jesus or less like him. So what are you doing today that is going to align your life with the life of Christ? I want to see a movement of Jesus followers who are committed to the busi- ness of what lies close at hand. DJ Bryant, Pastor VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Regular services have been canceled for this week. Proverb "A man of words and not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds." James writes, "But someone will say, 'You have faith, and I have works.'" "Show me your faith with- out your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe and tremble. But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead" ( James 2:18 -20)? Because He lives. Before I rededicated my life to follow Jesus Christ, I believed that I wasn't worthy to serve Him. I drank alcohol, smoked pot and cigarettes, among other things of which I am not proud. How wrong I was. I read that Jesus didn't come to save the righteous, He came to save the sinners. Not till I accepted the Lord's grace in my heart was I able to give up these sinful deeds. You see, when the Holy Spirit comes into your heart, He be- gins to help you fight the flesh and helps you walk in the spir- it, and live each day in God's favor.
