She attended elementa- ry school in Algiers, then, in 1955, she graduated from Ot- well High School. She mar- ried Jesse John Fulcher, and the couple raised five daugh- ters in Pike County before his death in 1986. During those early years, when her girls were very small, Helen taught piano. She was an accomplished pi- ano artist and was very tal- ented as a singer as well. She often played in churches, ac- companying her young daugh- ters with both instrument and voice. She loved music and used her talents to perform in plays in southern Indiana, and was an active participant and solo- ist in the choir at Main Street Presbyterian Church in Pe- tersburg, where she was a member for many years. In later years, she played the pi- ano and sang in the choir at St. Clement Catholic Church in Boonville.
