Traffic stop leads to meth arrest By Andy Heuring A Petersburg man was ar- rested on a meth charge after failing to signal a turn. Thomas Tyler Cannon, 32, of 908 N. Liberty Ave., Pe- tersburg, was arrested on a charge of possession of meth less than five grams, a lev- el 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, after he was stopped by Petersburg Offi- cer Scott Arnold. Officer Arnold said Can- non failed to signal a turn as he turned from Locust St. on- to Highway 356 at about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17. Arnold said when he talked with Cannon, he noticed Can- non seemed very nervous and had uncontrolled facial mus- cle movements. Sheriff's Sgt. Buck Seger and K9 Bleck did a free air sniff of the vehicle and Bleck indicated on the ve- hicle. Cannon gave police per- mission to search the vehicle and they found a glass pipe in the trunk. The pipe, accord- ing to police, had a white pow- der-like substance in it. Officer Arnold's report states Cannon said he had been clean for two weeks, but prior to that he had used meth and the white powder was probably meth. Cannon was taken into cus- tody. Coleman arrested for OVWI By Andy Heuring An Oakland City woman was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while in- toxicated after police stopped her for driving left of center four times on Cato Road ear- ly Saturday. Megan Coleman, 37, of 518 W. Columbia St., Oakland City, was arrested by Pike County Deputy Sheriff Jared Simmons at 3:30 a.m. Deputy Simmons said he was driving south on Ca- to-Winslow Road when he saw a Chrysler SUV in front of him driving 28 mph. He said it went left of center four times and almost ran off the road on the right side. He stopped the vehicle and when he talked to Coleman, who was driving, he noticed the strong odor of alcohol. Ac- cording to his report, she said she had "a couple" earlier. She failed field sobriety tests and was taken into cus- tody. Deputy Simmons, in his re- port, stated he tested her pas- senger, Christopher Potts, to see if he could drive her car home. Potts tested above the legal limit in Indiana. Potts was given a ride home and Coleman's vehicle was towed. RURITAN PUTS UP CHRISTMAS LIGHTS A crew of volunteers from the Jefferson Township Ruritan were out Saturday afternoon putting up their Christmas lights. They had a production line set up. At bottom, Mike Whaley drove a pickup with a trailer holding the decorations. Devin Meyer and Aiden Ison set the decorations off at the appropriate light pole. Steve Meyer (top) then got the decorations and hand- ed them up to Jordan Ison and Ryan Schmitt (middle) on a lift, and Ison and Schmitt put the lights in place.
