A-4 Wednesday, October 14, 2020 The Press-Dispatch Two local women travel to Washington, D.C. for prayer march By Andy Heuring Two Pike County women traveled re- cently to Washington, D.C., in late Sep- tember to take part in the Franklin Gra- ham prayer march. Robin Boyd and Crystal Breeding drove to Washington, D.C., on Saturday, Septem- ber 26, where they gathered with another 75,000 people to pray in unison. Boyd said they started with The Return at 9 a.m. She said The Return was a call to repen- tance. "We didn't know what to expect. I had never been part of a march before. The overwhelming part was the sereni- ty of that many people coming together and praying together with one common denominator, to bring peace to our coun- try . . . to get our focus back on Jesus," said Boyd. She said they got there at about 9 a.m. and people just kept coming all day. The Prayer March started at 11 a.m. and Boyd said people just kept arriving, and the crowd just kept growing. Graham spoke at the Lincoln Memorial with other speak- ers and musicians. The groups then started parading to- ward the Capital Building, across the Na- tional Mall. Along the way were numerous stops, with a specific prayer to be made at that location. Boyd said groups would move togeth- er and stop and pray for a specific topic at the various locations as they moved along. "Everyone was just praying everywhere," said Boyd. She said the crowd was in tune to be- ing there for a purpose, "which was to just pray." Boyd said there were protests around the march, but "we just didn't pay atten- tion.." She said the theme of their prayers was: Second Chronicles 7:14, which states: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." "It was awesome to be a part of it. To be there in front of the Lincoln Memorial, where there were that many people pray- ing for the same thing," said Breeding. She said they sang as a group, "How Great is our God" around the Reflecting Pool. "It was kind of my moment." Breeding and Boyd became friends years ago as they worked together in a Celebrate Recovery program. Breeding said Boyd had already planned to attend the March and when she mentioned it, Breeding decided it would be a good trip to go on. "It was just an amazing experience to see that many people coming together and to pray. . . That was powerful, just a com- ing together and praying for our country," said Boyd. Vote for KNOWLEDGE.
