Winslow and Petersburg seniors will not meet again until Governor Holcomb gives the okay. Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598 received no notes this week. Winslow Patoka River has risen a little, but we haven't had much rain. We have had temps on the 90s, but the high humidity each day has the heat index from 100 -103 most days. We have had days of lightning, but no rain. We used to call that heat lightning. Other days, we had lightning and rain, then some days we had thunder, lightning and rain. The blackbirds have been pecking the ground for insects everyday and I saw our only hummingbird at the feeder hanging from the tree. The Formosa trees are in bloom and the wildflowers are colorful. The sunflowers have been seen in some yards, but I also saw some by a field. The corn fields are growing taller and some of the tassels are turning brown. The bean fields are also growing taller. My Dog- wood tree is just now beginning to lose its blooms. The orange lilies and tiger lil- ies are still blooming. Last Saturday, July 18, Mom, George, Deby, Terri Ann, Ted, Norm and I ate lunch at a restaurant near Montgomery to celebrate Terri Ann's 70th birthday be- fore Mom left to go back to Illinois. Ter- ri has lost some weight and the outfit she had on showed us all how much weigh she has lost. She reminded me of when she was a teenager and she had trimmed down then also. My little sister really looks great for 70 years old. Saturday night, we stopped in to see how Tim and Jeanette were doing and they are well. Tim got his second eye worked on, but he is doing just fine. The county-wide yard sale must have gone great because we saw quite a few places with tables set up in yards, garages and alongside buildings. We didn't stop, but we saw them when we left the coun- ty to eat with family. Norm usually fixes breakfast on Sun- day, but since he got a start on mowing the yard, I decided to fix him breakfast in- stead. I knew the heat and humidity was taking all his energy out of him and he is glad I cooked for him. The 15th Light-Up Winslow Parade is still on for September 19 at dark, unless Governor Holcomb decides that the vi- rus is too great in our county to hold it. Norm has his vehicle for this year and now we have to decide how to light it up. So, do you know what to enter with lights? There are a lot of spaces to watch the parade that night, like all of Main St., from south to north, and also the Sports League Park, where the entries will drive through. You can also watch from your ve- hicle, along the streets, as families and distancing should not be a problem. This is a fun event for everyone to enjoy. Petersburg Hardware had a table full of items packaged up for people to enter to win. I put in Norm's and my name. Guess what! I won a package and when we went to pick it up, Sherry had told us that the package I won got a good laugh from the employees and from us because of what was in it. There was a nice rain gauge and attached to it was a counter to keep track of how much rain you got that day (two inches). It is already hung up and working great. There was also a box of 12 Titleist golf balls and a Gemini Indus- tries total wood preservation can or bot- tle wrap. What we saw next was a can of Best Damn Beard Balm and a bottle of Best Damn Beard Oil that Norm hasn't tried on his beard, but he has said he will try it. To get a gift that we might need or use was a surprise. I had mentioned to Norm that I saw a garden or yard hose, but we have no outside faucet, but what we got is great. All of the items were in a yellow container I am using on the table. I love the gifts. We were in Dollar General near PC-1 Stop. You have to wear a mask when you enter to shop and if you don't have one, you can ask the cashier for one. Peters- burg Hardware still has the soap and sink outside so you can wash your hands be- fore entering the store. They have had this set up for months. Did you see Comet Neowise? It can be seen near the Big Dipper in the north- west sky. Norm has to fend for himself this week because I'm at Mom's to help out and vis- it some more. He will be okay. He knows how to cook or to open up a can of some- thing, so he won't starve. He will get those home-cooked meals when I get back home. No more to talk about that I can think of, so the lights are about to dim for this week. Keep an eye on family and friends. Slow down and enjoy your area of this big world. As always, smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone you see this week. AREA HAPPENINGS Celebrate Recovery–Will meet every Monday at 6 p.m. at the River of Life Church, 342 E. CR 300 N., Petersburg.
