Lockdown - Con't from page 16 days si ng in front of the TV, Ne lix, and chilling. However, since it's not advisable to put on your best clothes and head to the mall right now, you can take yourself shopping from the comfort of your own home. Not only do you deserve it, but you will also have something to look forward to when you hit that "confirm order" bu on. Bear in mind that it's not only shopping for clothes that we have in mind – you can also choose to take a short break from technol- ogy and gi yourself a wonderful book or two that you will use to make the lockdown a bit more enjoy- able. If you opt for this step, make sure to go with books that have a posi ve tone, such as the memoirs of every gay's best TV friends – Bossypants by Tina Fey and Yes, Please by Amy Poehler. They will always make your day. So, there you have it – three things that you can do to make yourself feel be er? Don't forget, you are the most important person in your life and you should do whatever it takes to make yourself feel good. And if that involves spending money, planning a trip, or taking a bubble bath with a glass of wine on the side – so be it. Diversity Rules Magazine| June 2020 | 21 Burke - Con't from page 20 He was arrested for drugs and served me in prison; he ended living on the streets of San Francisco for a number of years. He spent his final months with his sister in Oakland. On May 30, 1995, Glenn Burke died of AIDS complica ons at the age of 42. When the news of his AIDS diagnosis was made pub- lic in 1994, the Oakland Athle cs organiza on helped to support him financially. In interviews given while he was figh ng AIDS, he expressed that he had no grudges, and his only one big regret was that he never had the opportunity to pursue a second professional sports career in basketball. Since his passing, Glenn has been revered as a pio- neer of homosexuality in baseball. In 2013, he was in- ducted in the Na onal Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame. In 2015, the Oakland A's, who first discriminat- ed against him, now honored him as part of their Ath- le cs Pride Night, with his brother throwing the first ceremonial first pitch of the game. Later that year, he was inducted into the Baseball Reliquary's Shine of the Eternals, a "Hall of Fame" for players who have altered the baseball world in ways that supersede sta s cs. Glenn Burke did not play for very long, and his life on the planet was short, yet his footprint on the sport is remembered today. Things may have been different if he accepted the "wedding proposi on," but he stayed true to himself. Glenn Burke is a real innovator.
