John Manges, Minister WINSLOW CHRISTIAN CHURCH Corner of Lafayette and Walnut Pastor 812-753-3539 Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; We extend a warm welcome to everyone. Dr. Robert Asa, Minister dom entries, we'll call it for the paper's sake, Wednes- day's Random Musings. Here's todays point's some- times you hear a lesson on a specific verse in the Bible and it rubs you the wrong way. Not that the verse rubs you the wrong way, but that the application rubs you the wrong way. Just a cou- ple days ago I heard some- one expound on forgiveness and reconciliation. His point was this; as Christians we are called to forgive as we have been forgiven but forgiveness does not always result in rec- onciliation. Here is my prob- lem, if we forgive but do not strive for reconciliation, we have missed the mark. What if God looked at us and said I forgive you, through the blood of my soon. We know there is forgive- ness to cover a multitude of sins, but we also know with- out a shadow of a doubt that we have been reconciled. II Corinthians 5:18 tells us "All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation…" I won't tell you that every bad relationship that is sev- ered that you make the hard, heart work to forgive will re- sult in reconciliation, but to fail to try and reconcile, is not an option. We must work hard toward reconciliation because we ourselves have been reconciled through Christ, and here is the point, we have been given the min- istry of reconciliation. Let me encourage you to work hard at this discipline. Grace and Peace. "Therefore I also have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord." So they wor- shiped the Lord there.'" (I Samuel 1:28). Hannah wanted a child and prayed for the Lord to give one to her. At the same time, she was willing to give him back to the Lord for His service. How many times have we been willing to give back to the Lord those "things" we have prayed for? How often do we use the "gifts" given to us by the Lord for His ser- vice? If we think about these questions the next time we pray, it may just keep us humble and we may not be asking for stuff that would be outside of His Will. Nehemiah made a con- certed effort to rally his countrymen to the task of rebuilding the broken-down walls of Jerusalem. They re- sponded to his vision and the wall was erected in 52 days. Why was a wall impor- tant? Walled cities in those days were essential to pro- vide protection against en- emies and to give security to the people living inside the city. There is a spiritual par- allel in our lives today. We need walls of protection around our spiritual lives. Nehemiah's three principal enemies were Sanballat, To- biah and Geshem. Our three enemies are the world, the flesh and the devil. Our walls of protection are the standards and guidelines from the blessed Word of God and prayer. Standards and rules may seem restric- tive and unnecessary, but God uses them as protec- tive walls from the tempta- tions of the world, the flesh PIKE COUNTY CENTER FOR WOMEN'S MINISTRIES Phone —812-582-8222 Office hours: Open Mon- day and Friday, 9 a.m. till noon; Thursday open from 6 - 8 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednes- day closed. As you have opportuni- ties to serve in your family or community, be encour- aged that Jesus greatly val- ues the time and effort you give in service to others. How might you serve someone today? How could you take time today to say "thank you" to someone who has graciously loved and served you? "Lord Jesus, thank you for reminding us of Your loving care for children, who are vulnerable.
