David Eugene Padgett, 25, of 905 E. Lafayette St., Win- slow, was arrested by Pike County Deputy Sheriff Paul Collier on a charge of oper- ating a vehicle while intox- icated. Deputy Collier said he was dispatched to Win- slow at 9:04 p.m. to check on an older Chevrolet Silverado with a loud muffler speeding and peeling out near 1005 E. North St. He said while he was enroute, central dis- patch told him they received a second phone about a do- mestic at 905 E. Lafayette St. and they heard the call- er say, "Why are you trying to run over me? " The vehi- cle description was similar to the first call. Collier arrived at 9:32 p.m. and found Winslow Town Marshal Steve Nelson talking with Padgett and his mother, Rose Padgett. Deputy Collier said when he talked with Padgett, he could smell the odor of al- cohol and noticed slurred speech. Padgett admitted to drinking three beers, ac- cording to Collier's report. He failed three of four field sobriety tests and was tak- en to the Pike County Jail, where he tested 0.094 per- cent for blood alcohol con- tent. The legal limit for blood alcohol content in In- diana is 0.08 percent. Risley charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication By James Capozella Christian Tyler Risley, 23, of 500 W. Warnock St., Trlr A2, Princeton, was arrest- ed for disorderly conduct and public intoxication by Pike County Sheriff's Dep- uty Jared Simmons after he and Trooper C.J. Boeck- man, Petersburg Officer Bryce Manning and Sgt. Buck Seger responded to a call from a homeowner in Otwell. The officers arrived at a situation at 4272 CR 750 E., Otwell, where about 40 vehicles were parked at a residence and also on the roadway. A fter homeowner Jaylon Owens was consulted, it was determined that several un- derage individuals ran into the woods. A panic alarm on a Dodge Charger was going on and off while the officers attempted to get the traf- fic situation under control. Plate information returned the car to Christian Risley, who eventually came to his car. He was stumbling in the roadway and carrying a can of beer, according to the re- port. When Trooper Boeck- man spoke with Risley, Ris- ley refused to put out his cig- arette and blew smoke into Trooper Boeckman's face. Risley was told to go back to where the others were standing off the roadway; however, Risley continued to argue and returned to the roadway again, and con- tinued being disruptive, in- cluding screaming and yell- ing. A fter Sgt. Buck Seger arrived and spoke with Dep- uty Simmons, Risley again stumbled down the middle of the roadway, this time car- rying a case of beer. Risley got in the vehicle, but then got out again and remained walking in the middle of the road, refusing to take a clear and safe path to the yard. Pike County Prosecu- tor Darrin McDonald ad- vised Deputy Simmons that there was probable cause to arrest Risley. During that phone call, Risley returned to his car and was playing music as loud as he could, remaining disruptive and disorderly. Upon arrival at the Pike County Jail, Risley was not compliant concern- ing health screening and wouldn't answer any ques- tions before being placed in a cell to sober up, according to the report. Crimson clover over and over Dark red blooms of Crimson Clover are popping up all over in the area. Purdue Extension Agent David Ackles said it is used as a cover crop used to build nitrogen levels in the soil, as well as pro- hibit erosion. Wrong way driver arrested for OVWI By Andy Heuring A wrong way driver on I- 69 was arrested by police Sunday night. Jorge Maldonado, 27, was arrested at about 9:30 p.m. on charges of operating while intoxicated, reckless driving and operator never licensed. Pike County Deputy Sher- iff Jarrod Simmons said the Pike County central dis- patch received a call about a wrong way driver near the 34-mile marker on I-69, driv- ing north into Pike County in the southbound lane. Pe- tersburg Patrolman Bryce Manning drove south on I- 69 but couldn't locate the wrong way driver. Dispatch then got another call about a possible intoxicated driv- er exiting I-69 and driving north on Highway 61. Simmons said he and Dep- uty Cody Jones had been dis- patched to another incident but were told to disregard. They then began looking for the reported vehicle on Highway 61. Deputy Sim- mons said he met an SUV driving in his lane of travel and he had to get complete- ly off the road to avoid being hit by the SUV. He turned around with his emergency lights and siren on, but said the vehicle continued driv- ing south in the northbound lane of Highway 61 for sever- al minutes before he pulled back on the correct side of the road and stopped. Simmons said when he talked with Maldonado, he could smell a strong odor of alcohol, and noticed slurred speech and poor manual dexterity. Maldonado gave Depu- ty Simmons a Puerto Rico identification card. Simmons said he used an online translator be- cause Maldonado's English was poor. Maldonado failed field sobriety tests, includ- ing a portable breath test at 0.179 percent for blood alco- hol content. He refused a breathalyz- er and was taken to the Pike County Jail.
