C-2 Church Wednesday, Februar y 19, 2020 The Press-Dispatch Continued from page 1 Continued on page 3 Continued in next column "You can do something big, or you can do some- thing small. Because what- ever you do...it's better than nothing at all! Foster. Adopt. Rescue. Advocate" (C. Jiro). This week, PAWS is fea- turing an inspiring young gal named Alyx, who has been at the shelter much too long, but is ever hopeful she will be chosen. She had heartworms when she ar- rived, therefore her treat- ment and recuperation pe- riod took time. Next, she had to be spayed and vac- cinated. Alyx now has a clean bill of health and hopes she doesn't have to wait much longer for a for- ever home. She has high energy, is high spirited, loves people and would give anyone "the fur off her back" to help some- one in need. Alyx has short, shiny black fur with white ac- cents, is a Pit Bull Terrier mix and approximately two years old. To adopt this wonderful gal, call 812-354-9894. When we understand something of Christ's love for us as a sinner, we re- spond with love for Christ and that love includes feel- ings and emotions. But emo- tions come and go, and we must not allow them to mis- lead us. God loves us wheth- er we feel it or not. Chris- tians who gauge their rela- tionship with Christ by the feelings seldom have a sta- ble spiritual life. What makes the differ- ence? It can be summa- rized in one word—com- mitment. Feelings come and go, but commitment stays. (The same should be true in a marriage). We who have committed our lives to Christ may feel joy, grat- itude, love and so on. But even when we don't have those feelings, our commit- ment keeps us true to Christ. If at any time you don't have a church to attend, feel free to join us for services. I am sure you will leave be- ing blessed. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10 :30 a.m. I truly believe in the pow- er of moments. I know a lot of people who have experi- enced pure joy, and debilitat- ing fear, all in a single mo- ment. And one of the most powerful tools in the arse- nal of moments are words. You can lift someone up or tear someone down, all by the words you communi- cate in a single moment. I know people who during the most devastated times in their lives got by because of the compassion and en- couragement they felt by people close to them when they spoke the right words at the right time. A truth that I am learning at this season of my life is never underesti- mate the spirit filled truths, spoken by a spirit filled per- son. Over the course of this next week, think about the words you say, they have a great impact on the people around you. The difference is that only the merciful are in a po- sition to receive it. God can forgive the unforgiven but not the unforgiving. The very essence of forgiveness is restored fellowship. Only the merciful obtain mercy." Jesus said, "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly father will also forgive you. "Be pleased, O Lord, to save me. O Lord, make haste to help me" (Psalm 40 :13). The psalm writer wants God to be glad when He res- cues him, to be able to see a change in behavior towards God and other people. And the word haste shows an im- patience to achieve a person- al relationship with God. Thankfully we don't have to wait for this, because Je- sus already did the work on the cross. We need only turn to Him in repentance to be- gin our closer walk with Him. We have been giv- en His written Word and His Holy Spirit to show us the way and encourage us. He also gives us assembly (church) for this reason and wants us to assemble regu- larly. If you don't have a church of your own, feel free to join us.
