Poplar Street, Petersburg It has been well said that if there is any- thing good in any man it is because it was put there by God. And something good — a new, sinless nature — has been imparted by God to every believer. While there is still within us "that which is begotten of the flesh," there is also "that which is begotten of the Spirit," and just as the one is totally depraved and "cannot please God," so the other is absolutely per- fect and always pleases Him. Adam was originally created in the im- age and likeness of God, but he fell into sin and later "begat a son in his own likeness, after his image" (Genesis 5:3). It could not be otherwise. Fallen Adam could gener- ate and beget only fallen, sinful offspring, whom even the Law could not change. But "what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin," accomplished, "that the righteous- ness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spir- it" (Romans 8:3,4). As Adam was made in the likeness of God, but fell, so Christ was made in the like- ness of sinful flesh, to redeem us from the fall, that by grace, through the operation of the Spirit, a new creation might be brought into being, a "new man… renewed in knowl- edge after the image of Him that created him" (Colossians 3:10) a "new man, which, after God is created in righteousness and true holiness" (Ephesians 4:24). Referring to this "new man," John says: "Whosoever is born [begotten] of God doth not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born [begotten] of God" (I John 3:9). "We know that whosoever is born [begot- ten] of God sinneth not…" (I John 5:18). Stam Important issues of the Church Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin There are many battles raging within the Church. The Church has become too much like the world we seek to win. The old say- ing, "Let your walk match your talk" has lit- tle meaning today. True followers of Christ, regardless of denomination, have a lifestyle that represents our Lord. The lifestyle in- gredients include things such as love, kind- ness, respect, loyalty, honesty and clean liv- ing. It is by this that Jesus said, "All men will know that you are my disciples." One reason our nation is being overrun by cults, shamed by gay marriage and inun- dated by Internet pornography is because Christians have become silent. Many of our evangelical pastors have lost confidence that the Gospel can actively transform the human heart. The spirit of the world and desire to fit in with the 21st Century cul- ture has led many to reinvent the sacred Scriptures. As the Church becomes more popu- lar, it seems to have lost some of its cut- ting edge. When the Church becomes more tolerant of an evil culture the pres- ence of God seems less. Paul writes, "I urge you, therefore, to present your bod- ies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God which is your spiritual service of worship and do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is that which is good and acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:1- ,2 NASB). The great issues of our day are more than moral and political. They are theological and spiritual. We idealize self-esteem, pow- er, money and leisure. All these will soon pass away and all will stand before God. Well this week is ready to supply us with a new set of situations to deal with. Started this week off cleaning up a terrible mess our old dog made because he is old and some- times has accidents. You know we have nursing homes to care for us as we age, but animals are at our mer- cy especially if you love them like family. I have family in the nursing home and my wife and I had both of our mothers in at the same time. They were there because they couldn't live by themselves safely and their needs were more than we could manage. You adopt a pet you should do the best for them if at all possible. You need to think would I want someone to get rid of me be- cause I made a mess or because I sometimes smell bad. Like I said a couple of weeks ago our cat was sick, so we tried a couple of shots by the vet and she got some better on- ly to become so weak she had trouble walk- ing. Now comes the hard part I went back for vet help and we ended up putting her down because she wasn't going to get better. It broke my heart because even though she was just an old cat, she was my old cat and I cared for her. I tried to do the best thing for her and the vet agreed. The Ramblings gets attention because twice now the same man has called and asked if he could help by volunteering with us. I told him about the pantry food truck schedule. He wanted to help so we now have another volunteer for the truck. There are times when you need all the help you can See R AMBLINGS on 3 Continued on page 2 Gentle Shepherd Church of God hosts The Padgetts this Sunday Gentle Shepherd Church of God, located at 8350 E. 350 N., Francisco, in rural Gibson County, will host The Padgetts from Ohio as its guest on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. CST.
