Senior Ethan Scott scored 13 points in the first half to help propel the Chargers to a first-quar- ter lead. He went on to score 21 points on the night. Vincennes rode double figure scoring from three players and a 25 -point third quarter to a 57-40 win. Scott made 44 percent from the three- point range, as he was four of nine. Over- all, he was 8 of 19 from the floor. Scott's hot hand early helped the Chargers jump out to a 9 -8 lead after the first quarter. Scott had two three pointers and a jump- er for eight first-quarter points. Scott stayed hot in the second quar- ter as he hit another three and a field goal for five points. He got help from Se- an Hanselman, who added a three to the Chargers' total of 17 points. Pike Central led most of the first half. With the game tied at 17, the Chargers held the ball for a last shot in the half. But with five seconds to go, they were called for a travel. Vincennes got a run- ning shot at the buzzer and nailed it for a 19 -17 lead at the half. The host Alices blew red hot in the third quarter as they poured in seven three-pointers on the way to a 25 -point third quarter. Vincennes had five play- ers hit threes in the quarter. "They re- ally did get hot in the third quarter. Sev- en threes is pretty good for a game, let alone a half," said Charger Coach Hunt- er Elliott. Vincennes' big surge buried Pike Cen- tral, who were only able to put up five points. "It was kind of a perfect storm. The got hot with threes and we stopped execut- ing at about the same time." When the barrage of threes ended with the third quarter, the Alices held a 44-22 lead over the Chargers. Pike Central rallied in the fourth quar- ter, outscoring Vincennes 18 -13 for the final 57-40 score. "We played well in the first half and then again in the fourth quarter, we just stopped executing in the third quarter." "Ethan played a good game and was aggressive with his shots. We real- ly struggled to score anywhere except him, so he had to take some tough shots for us to try to generate some scoring," said Elliott. Pike Central is 1-11 and Vincennes im- proved to 8 -9. North Posey, 10 -8 on the season, jumped out to a big lead early. Josiah Ricketts poured in 12 points in the first quarter on his way to 25 on the night. "He is one of the better players in the area," said Coach Hunter Elliott. In the first quarter, Ricketts hit two three, two twos and two free throws. For the game, he had five threes. He led the Vikings to a 21-6 lead in the first quarter. Jenna Meyer captures Jasper sectional By James Capozella Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net The podium was earned by all three La- dy Charger relay teams at Saturday's Jas- per sectional and a big finals performance secured Lady Charger junior Jenna Meyer the sectional 1-meter diving crown. The ju- nior topped 10 divers in two days of compe- tition with a 340.35 score. Meyer had moved out of the semifinals with a top score of 254. She had bettered Jasper senior Olivia Biggs by more than 18 points in the prelims and then got the win by 12 points in the finals. Biggs finished with 328.25 points and Lady junior Patriot Elizabeth Williams was third with 301.95. Meyer advanced to the regional for the third year following an 11-dive score of 340.35. She earned her trip to the regional last year with a second place finish, scor- ing 323.15 points. Charger coach Jason McKinney said, "All the girls swam their best times on Thurs- day night in the preliminaries and turned around and swam even better on Saturday. Jenna had a great day in the diving. She put herself in great position early by taking the lead and never looking back. She was con- sistent with every dive and held the lead to the end. Jenna went to sectional knowing she had to have a great day on the board because the competition was very strong." The girls finished eighth out of 16 teams, bettering the Jeeps, Corydon Central, Te- cumseh, Forest Park, Vincennes Lincoln, South Knox, Lanesville and Bloomfield. Jasper was the clear cut overall sectional champions with 428 points and winning four events. Tell City was second with 279 points and two first place finishes. Charger Jenna Meyer competed in the Bloomington South Regional on Tuesday, February 11 beginning at 6 p.m. EST and then travels to the IU Natatorium on Satur- day, February 15 at 9 a.m. The Blooming- ton South Regional consists of sectionals from Castle, Columbus North, Floyd Cen- tral, Franklin Community and Jasper. THREE RELAYS MAKE THE PODIUM The top Lady Charger relay was the 200 freestyle relay team of Emma McKinney, Jil- lian Bailey, Lilly Frederick-Rice and Char- lotte Dudenhoeffer. They clocked 1:55.43 for fifth place, just a little more than a sec- ond behind fourth place Heritage Hills. Last year's team finished eighth with Sarah Fen- wick, Avery Hunt, Emma McKinney and Madison Riley clocking 2:06.28. The Pike Central girls' 200 -yard medley relay team, consisting of Madison Riley, Emma McK- inney, Charlotte Dudenhoeffer and Jillian Bailey, placed sixth in the A finals with a time of 2:07.95. The 200 -yard medley re- lay team improved on their preliminary swim by a half second. Last year, Natalie Bohnert, McKinney, Charlotte Dudenhoef- fer and Jenna Meyer teamed for a fifth place with a season best time of 2:02.40. The third relay to make the podium was the 400 -yard relay team comprised of Jenna Meyer, Lily Frederick-Rice, Emma McKin- ney and Charlotte Dudenhoeffer. They bet- tered Northeast Dubois, Tecumseh, Forest Park, Lanesville, Corydon Central and Vin- cennes Lincoln with a time of 4:23.54. EIGHT EVENTS EARN CHARGER POINTS Sophomore Emma McKinney was a top contender in the 100 -yard breaststroke, Jenna Meyer won the top level of the Jasper sectional podium after win- ning the diving championship with a score of 340.35. Season ends at regional for Pike Central wrestlers By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's wrestling season came to an end on Saturday at the Bloomington South Regional. The Chargers advanced four wrestlers to the regional on Saturday, but none of them managed to get out of the regional. "Not the outcome I was hoping for, but I'm proud of everyone's ef- fort. And I'm proud of the team. We were down on numbers this year, but managed to stay relative- ly healthy and put together a win- ning season," said Charger head coach Ryan McCain. Griffin Boyd at 106 pounds lost his first-round match to Seth Cowden, of Northview, by technical fall in the second period. Cowden was 28 -7. Boyd, a freshman, end- ed the season with a 15 -17 record. "Boyd had a solid kid, we couldn't get away from the tilts, and got tech falled in the second. Griffin has a great future ahead," said McCain. Isaiah Greer lost a 5 -1 decision to Bloomington South's Ethan Roudebush. Roudebush placed third on Saturday. Greer, a junior, ended the season with a 32-13 record. "I know Greer was disappoint- ed. He went to semi-state last year. His weight class was a lot tough- er this year and we came up short. He's gonna have to put together a solid off-season starting now to get where he wants to be next year," said McCain. Charger senior Blake Henson, at 138 pounds, faced Terre Haute South's Nathan Recknor and lost a 17-4 decision. Recknor went on to finish third in the regional. "Blake Henson went after it, and put his kid right on his back. Unfortunately, he couldn't capi- talize. Blake fought hard but his kid was just better that day," said McCain. Henson ended the season with a 24-21 record. He won the South- ridge sectional last week. Freshman Jason Stuckey, at 152, faced senior Moses Hamm, of Terre Haute South. Hamm, who was regional runner-up with a 30 - 5 record, pinned Stuckey. Stuck- ey finished the season with a 18 - 27 record. "Stuckey had to wrestle the runner-up right off the bat. It didn't go well, but hopefully Jack- son will want to put in the off-sea- son work to get further next year. He's very talented," said McCain.
