Winslow is very saddened to hear of the passing of Arvle Wade, 70, on Janu- ary 29. He left us to be in a better place. Arvle was always on the go, you could have seen him uptown talking with many friends, stopping in a restaurant to eat or on a summer day to enjoy a small tasty ice cream. He was seen at the Winslow seniors group and was a member of the Winslow Lions Club. His main travel source was a motor- ized chair that could be seen from the Riverside Park or on every street in the town of Winslow. To everyone who knew Arvle and to his family, remem- ber all those great times and share your memories, and more memories will be added. Arvle is truly missed in our Town of Winslow. EVENTS February 14 - Valentine's Day, chil- dren will hand out valentine's cards to their friends and teachers. Many stars will go out with their spouse or family. Petersburg seniors meet on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in the courthouse basement. We received no postcards this week at Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598. Winslow Patoka River was high and it should still be high since we had rain, some heavy, and snow showers starting last Monday evening. It wasn't a whole day and night, but some every- day for three days. The north winds brought int he snow, but it also brought in the cold winter-like weather that blows with a bite. On the day of the big game, it was in the high 60s, but since the days of rain started, the temps dropped into the middle 30s. While the snow flurries fell, it looked nice to see it land on the trees, but to walk on the wood porch wasn't too much fun be- cause the snow became ice crystals on the wood. I don't like to walk on stuff that can cause you to fall. The end of January, our refrigera- tor was making a noise like it was try- ing to run but couldn't. So, when Norm got off work, we went to different plac- es to find the right one for our needs, and by the time night came, we had our new fridge in its place and the old one on the porch. We got the GE Hotpoint with a top freezer and the fridge part has lots of door space. I can set a roast- er pan on the shelf and still have room for other items. The only thing we have to do later is change the hardware for the doors to open on the right side. Well, the groundhog in Winslow saw her shadow, so six more weeks of win- ter. I guess that prediction has come true. We have had our winter weather arrive, so Mother Nature decided to see what the groundhog's prediction for our area was going to be. Finally, winter has come, if only for a few days. Besides Groundhog Day, it was also the day of the big game be- tween the San Francisco 49ers, who scored 20, and the Kansas City Chiefs, who won with a score of 31. Norma and I had our own party at home watch- ing the game. Our team won. The commercials for this year were great on some and for others, I wish not to see anymore. Norm stayed up until the end of the game and then, since it was late, he had to go to sleep to get up ear- ly, like almost everyone else who works or goes to school. It was a great game day to enjoy together. We stopped by to see our friends, Tim and Jeanette, since we haven't seen them since before Christmas and they were wondering if we were still here and how we were doing. Things are great for all of us and we hope it won't be another month before we vis- it again. We all went to pick up a horse trailer and the property had a great scenic view, so calming. The couple has a cat that loves to bed down in the horse trailer and he almost didn't want to come out, but he did. We got more wood from our wood guy and his equipment had broken down, so he had to buy a new piece of machinery to continue his log cutting. As we loaded up our wood and began to leave, his piece of machinery was put into his workshop, ready to be used. We also saw our White Buffalo Gor- don, who looks great. Winslow Lions held a special service for Arvle Wade before the regular ser- vice and viewing on Saturday, Feb. 8, because he was a Winslow Lion for a long time, serving in many positions. The Winslow Lions plan to have some new events coming up this year, and maybe on March 14, we will hold a Pi Day, where we could use your help with making pies. More informa- tion will follow when we find a place to hold it and decide on a time. Would you come for pie? Well I guess it's time to dim the lights on this stage, but keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see the beauty in your area. Always, smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone you see this week. Take care of your- self with all the viruses going around. Happy Valentine's Day. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS Mary P.
