The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, April 10, 2013 Church news Continued from page 4 main street presbyterian church 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg Sunday school 9:15 a.m.; Sunday worship 10:30 a.m. We have a nursery for children up to the age of seven and we also have a van route in Petersburg to pick anyone up. Come visit us, our doors are always open to you! Confronting the status quo The Wright brothers did what the status quo deemed impossible, build a vehicle heavier than air and then fly it. A problem-solving technique they used, called mind warping, has been described as thinking outside the box without forgetting about the box. As Jay Dennis writes in The Jesus Habits (B&H Books): Christians are people God has called to think outside the box, without abandoning our core beliefs. Jesus continually urged people to think outside the box in their understanding of Godannouncing forgiveness outside the temple, touching lepers and dead people, welcoming children, women, Samaritans, tax collectors, sinnerswhile, at the same time, never abandoning the ancient core of the faith. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and your neighbor as yourself (see Luke 10:27). God calls people to think not just outside the box but outside the tomb. When unconditional love and eternal life confront the status quo of sin and death, anything is possible. Be in prayer this week for the lost, the sick, our church, our country and leaders and always each other. Gods blessings on you this week. Try to be kind and show Gods love because everyone is fighting some kind of battle. If you dont have a church home, we invite you to any of our services. If you need spiritual help or information, call Dale or Terri 812-789-2348. We want to extend our sympathy to anyone who has lost a loved one. God doesnt want us to be weighed down with burdens. He wants us to trust Him and give our burdens to Him, also to have hope, joy and love and to help others. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever (Psalm 23). Remember: The good news is Gods gift to you... what you do with it, is your gift to God. Have a great week. Dale Frederick, Pastor Lois K. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. To whom then will ye like me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatest of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint. Taken from parts of Isaiah 40. The spreading of the Good NewsFire represents purification. God's purifying presence should be easily seen in our speech. After becoming Christlike, we should have burned away the undesirable speech and behavior of our past life and ignited a flame in our hearts to live a life devoted to God, by using our speech to spread His word and to lead lost souls to Christ. Use your tongue of fire each and every day in service to the Lord. Until next weekThe coming of the Holy Spirit changes everything.
