It wasn't very long before the entire inte- rior of the vehicle was not big enough for the business. That's when Carter got her present day store front at 816 East Main Street, across from the Pike County Courthouse. In the nine years that followed, Carter's in- ventory of featured product lines and gift ideas has blos- somed into an offering that meets the needs and desires of all her many customers. Fresh flowers for funerals and other special occasions are the main stay for Silk De- signs, but the idea of "some- thing for everyone" is cer- tainly not lost in this store. Carter offers Brighton Jew- elry and purses, all occa- sion and seasonal wreaths, Lanterns of all kinds and can- dles that are sometimes lan- terns as well, according to Carter. The mix of of- ferings for ladies and gents involves a nice selec- tion of wind chimes, snowmen and angels to go along with a variety of Christmas wreaths, the fresh flowers and chocolates. A friendly atmosphere greets the customer through the fra- grances that abound and en- tices interest in various candies, including the chocolates. There is no doubt fudge is on the menu and, of course, turtles avail- able in caramel and peppermint. A sa- vory original is also available that can be custom made in a great many ways. Carter has had help with her cut fresh flower sales from employees San- dy Tichenor and Jane Reed. Together, they operate the kind of store that's nice to see and browse, and a joy in the flavors and aromas make for a pleasant shopping expe- rience, especially around the busy holidays. Silk Designs is open Mon- day through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Contact Carter at 812-789-3046 for all your special and seasonal fresh flower arrangement needs. Silk Designs in Petersburg has been around since 2005, but they recently expanded their offerings, adding Brighton to their jewelry collections, fresh flowers and green plants. They still offer silk flow- ers and a large assortment of bereavement items, such as wind chimes, candles, wreaths, flags and other items. Silk Designs hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat- urday. They can be reached anytime at 812-789-3046. Above are: Krista Robinette, executive director of Pike County Chamber of Commerce; Sandy Tichenor, designer-florist; Dustin Schnarr with the Chamber of Commerce; owner Angie Carter; and Jane Reed, designer-florist.
