The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, November 6, 2019 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued on page 9 Continued in next column Continued in next column Continued from page 2 leave them on the ground. I'll probably be out mowing leaves in a snow suit. We attended Cup creek this past Sunday to be at their soup tasting after Sunday school. There was about 16 or 17 pots of soup to choose from and judge. I'm not sure which one won but according to your sam- ple size you might be full before you were ready for a bowl of soup. Sunday school con- cerned false prophets and false religions and just why they don't like the truth. We also discussed being forgiven and people not ac- cepting the conversion of others. We should be the ones who accept and help others accept rather than ques- tioning the validity of their conversion. Let me tell you if your past always dictates your new life then few of us would ever become Chris- tians. If someone tells me God has justified by our plea for forgiveness I will treat them as a brother or sister in Christ. A fter our lunch we once again went into the sanctu- ary for some singing since we missed our regular fifth Sunday singing. It is good to sing for the glory of God and enjoy one another's service to our Lord. Well so long for now but never give up being a bless- ing and seeking your own blessings from others. "Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him" (Isaiah 30 :18). This passage is so won- derful. It tells me that God wants to pour out grace and mercy on me, a sinner and a doer of wrong, and on you too, no matter what you've done. His justice allows us to be given grace and mercy be- cause He took on the pun- ishment we deserve. The work is done, but He's wait- ing on something from us. Note the last sentence. We are blessed when we long for Him in return. It's not about LIVING BY GR ACE 511 S. Franklin St. Oakland City 812-677-2508 Sunday services at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Wednes- day evening service at 6 p.m. Thankful Things have changed for us in our home, and it began some years ago when Jesus moved in. He may have won- dered if we were really go- ing to make room for Him. But we did, and I'm thankful. He has spoken to us of many things, shown Him- self true, patched up some things, taken some things away and replaced them with things needful, and I'm thankful. We don't speak the way we once did, nor do we think the way we once did, and even when trials come, all is rest- ful, and I'm thankful. Christ is the best house guest anyone could imag- ine. He never argues, LIVING FAITH CHURCH INTERNATIONAL 718 E. Main Street, Petersburg Phone: 812-809-4544 Sunday study 9 -9:35 a.m.; Sunday services at 10 a.m.; Wednesday service from 6:30 -8 p.m.; youth service Sunday from 6 -7:30 p.m. Why would God give the law if it would not bring His people into a right standing with Him? Couldn't God have found a better way of doing this? It isn't as if the law is a bad thing or a mis- take that God needs to cor- rect. It has a good purpose, but a limited one. It never supplants God's promise to Abraham. Rather, the law keeps sin in check until the time is right for the saving justice that comes through faith in Jesus. The law serves as a tutor or a schoolmaster, reveal- ing our great need for salva- tion and pointing everyone toward Jesus. We approach God through faith in the blood of Jesus, not by trying to keep the Ten Command- ments. (Read Galatians 2:16 - 21; 3:15 -25 and II Corinthi- ans 3:6). Thursday, Nov. 21, Bible study at 6:30 p.m. at the par- sonage. "Thou shalt not covet" (Ex- odus 20 :17). There is a sin of which ev- ery one at some time has probably been guilty, yet it is so subtle that those most en- thralled by it are most uncon- scious of it. At the bottom of Nadab and Abihu's sacrile- gious offering of strange fire before the Lord was the covet- ing of the priestly authority of Aaron. Covetousness was at the root of King Ahab's mur- der of Naboth to steal his vine- yard. David coveted Bathshe- ba. Gehazi cast longing eyes upon the gold, silver, and garments which Naaman of- fered Elisha out of gratitude for the cleansing of his lep- rosy. Covetousness ruled the stony, ashen heart of Judas; and for thirty pieces of silver he betrayed the Master. Cov- etousness is a sin that reach- es out for men of every age. How may it be avoided? By following Jesus in daily, reso- lute self-denial; by watchful- ness and prayer; by openness of heart; by humility of mind; by utter surrender to the Ho- ly Ghost; and by seeking first the Kingdom of God—S. Thought to Ponder...Islam is a religion in which Allah requires you to send your son to die for him. Christianity is a faith in which God sent His Son to die for you. Mark Davis, Pastor getting stuff, it's about re- ceiving Him. The Lord Himself is the greatest trea- sure we could ever possess, though He gives no more than His Presence. A longing for Him that ex- ceeds all else blesses us with the removal of those things that would keep His Pres- ence at a distance, however gradual the change to keep us from returning to sinful behavior - as determined by the Holy Spirit and the fight we put up against the flesh. The depth of our longing de- termines how willing we are to fight the flesh and keep fighting to be in the Pres- ence of God. How deep is your longing? Denny Wiscaver, Pastor Kimberly Flynn, Reporter doesn't mess anything up, never screams or yells, is incredibly pleasant, full of love and kindness, and on- ly tells the truth. He is nev- er late, always on time, po- lite and prompt. Since He has come to live with us, I don't remember the last time I have been late for Church, and I'm thankful. Jesus is alive and well and has enough love for ma- ny worlds, and I'm sure He would love to share it with you, if only given a chance. Ask Him to move in with you today, and then you and I both will be thankful. God Bless You. Gene Burkhart, Pastor Lutheran Lutheran ST. JOHN'S LUTHER AN CHURCH 6483 W. 580 N.
