What a lot of people don't realize about this thriving mid-west city is that its LGBTQ community is one of the larg- est in the United States and growing every day. Within minutes of arriving, I got a chance to visit Stonewall Columbus, their LGBTQ community cen- ter, located in the Short North neighborhood. The building, which recently went through a major renova on, offers a number of health and wellness services in addi on to hos ng numerous events throughout the year. Stonewall also houses an art gallery dedicated to local LGBTQ ar sts. Just a short stroll down High Street and you'll run in to Union and Axis, two of the city's many gay nightlife venues. On previous visits, there used to be a few more gay bars located on High Street, but they have since closed and others have sprouted up throughout the city. Art enthusiasts will love the Columbus Museum of Art's upcoming exhibi on Art A er Stonewall which opens in March 2020. The exhibi on, which previ- ously visited Miami and New York was actually curated by the Columbus Mu- seum of Art. The en re process of cura ng an exhi- bi on of this size, which includes about 250 works of art by LGBTQ ar sts, took around 7 years to com- plete. The collec on includes a combina on of well- known ar sts as well as some lesser known names. A er exploring the museum, head to North Market for lunch. Dozens of food vendors are located under one roof which features a culinary explosion for the senses including foods from Somalia, Greece, India among others. Also located in North Market is Jeni's Ice Cream, a homegrown shop which now has lo- ca ons in other ci es around the country. Try the Brown Bu er Almond Bri le, it's to die for! A few doors down is Le Meridien Columbus, The Joseph. Developed by The Pizzu Companies, the bou que hotel boasts a vast art collec on of works acquired by Ron Pizzu , one of the largest collec- tors of fine art in the world. Pizzu 's collec on is so extensive that he had to open a building to house Columbus - Con't on page 7 Pride Journeys Columbus, Ohio By Joey Amato
