"I really feel like Quin- lan set the tone for us at the front of the pack," Roach said. "She attacked her bat- tles early and just got better throughout the race. "It's always a bittersweet feeling when some of us ad- vance, but it's also the end of some seasons," Pike Cen- tral coach Josh Roach said. "We are very excited and happy for Nate, Peyton and Ijaa, but at the same time, sad that the rest of the team does not get to run anoth- er week. The great thing about this team though, is that most of these guys will still be at practice pushing the three boys that did ad- vance to get better for re- gional. They are invested in each other." Woolery finished the race eighth with a time of 17 minutes and 28.7 sec- onds. Chanley was 25th with a time of 18:27.2 and Chambers was 29th in 18:36.0. "Coach [Wil] Teague and I have coached these two since they were in sev- enth grade. I have loved seeing them grow, both as runners and as young men. Pike Central falls to NE Dubois on senior night Pike Central Middle School football: 8th grade rolls South Spencer Rebels shutout 7th graders By Dennis Marshall Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central eighth-grade football continues its out- standing season with a 56 - 12 win over South Spencer on Thursday, Oct. 10. The team bounced back from a pair of tough losses with the impressive victory. "The team could have gone in a few different di- rections after back-to-back losses," Pike Central coach Jorden Froderman said. "They came out and played very well in their last home game. We got a lot of good work in. The best thing about the game this past week was we were able to get a lot of guys the ball that ha- ven't gotten a lot of touches all year. We have seen a lot of growth from kids that are either first year players and or first year in our system." The Chargers' sev- enth-grade squad was blanked 34-0. "I really love this group of kids. They have real- ly battled injuries all year and have shown growth ev- ery single week," Froder- man said. "Throughout the week, we had to move some people around to give us the best shot at a win. I feel like they played really hard and gave it all they had. This was the last game for this team as a seventh-grade on- ly team. We, from this point forward, will be able to give our combined team a lot of talent both on the field and in depth roles. These kids are going to be seeing a lot of action in the last two games of the year, wheth- er that is in a special teams role, or a depth role for the offense or defense, some might even be starters, de- pending on how well they perform in practice." Pike Central will play its final two games as a com- bined team of the eighth and seventh graders. The team will be on the road at Tecumseh on Thurs- day, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Pike Central's Trent Zimmerman competes during the IHSA A Sectional 31 Meet at South Knox High School on Saturday, Oct. 12.
