The Chargers defeated the Rebels 25 -21, 17-25, 15 - 11 on Thursday, Sept. 12. "It was a great win for the seventh-grade girls," Pike Central coach Kinsey Bar- rett said. "We played well in the first set, but came out a little slow in the second set. One of South Spencer's servers really threw us for a loop and had several aces in a row that put us behind and we just couldn't pull for- ward after that." Pike Central has able to recover thanks to the play of Eve Burns, Myra Hens- ler, Emma Hunt, Karly Mor- son, Lakin Sorgius, Izzy Luker, Baylie Rainey and Riley Moore. Burns finished with five aces and four assists; Hens- ley had six aces, four kills and three digs; Hunt con- tributed an ace, two kills and two digs; Morson had an ace, a kill and a dig; Sor- gius finished with four aces and six digs; Luker had two digs; Rainey had a kill and Moore had an ace. "They pulled it togeth- er, played smart and came out on top in the third set for the win," Barrett said. "Their effort to bump, set and spike every point and play aggressive is real- ly showing. Very proud of these girls and I'm looking forward to our three games next week." Pike Central's B team al- so competed against South Spencer. "They also played an awesome 10 -minute game and I was really glad to get them on the court to see what we've been work- ing on in practice," Barrett said. "Their serving and net play really exceeded my ex- pectations last night." The squad was led by Emily Howard (three aces), Lillian Moore (one kill), Kynlee Franklin (one dig) and Makynna Satterfield (three aces and one kill). The outcome wasn't near- ly as favorable for the Char- gers on Wednesday, Sept. 4, when the team lost to South Knox 25 -20, 25 -19, giving the team its first loss of the season. "Although the score doesn't show it, the girls played a great game," Bar- rett said. "We have been working hard on our tran- sitions on the court and im- proving our passing accu- racy so we can bump, set and spike every point. Our goal is to eliminate free balls and be aggressive ev- ery time the ball is on our side of the court. They did just that last night and con- tinued to try to set up the ball but points just weren't falling in our favor. We had some communication er- rors and dropped balls that we'll try to work on and correct. It may have been a loss, but it still feels like a win because the improve- ment in the whole entire team thus far has been im- mense." Burns finished the game with three kills; Morson had two aces and a kill; and Sorgius, Hensler, Hunt and Rainey each finished with one ace. played well, but Forest Park was just a little better. "We just have to clean up a couple mistakes to play a near perfect match to win against very good teams," Western said. "Our effort was good, and it was really a 2-1 score, without me deciding to have us go on the offense the last few minutes." Pike Central hosted Tell City (0 -6) on Monday, Sept. 16, but no results were avail- able by press time. They al- so traveled to South Knox (4- 7) on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The Chargers are on the road against Northeast Dubois (2- 5) on Monday, Sept. 23 and at home versus North Posey (3- 6) on Tuesday, Sept. 24. We're not afraid to shed some light on the truth. 812-354-8500 SUBSCRIBE TODAY!
