ISP warns of Social Security Administration phone scam Indiana State Police De- tectives at the Evansville post are receiving com- plaints again about the so- cial security scam. If you receive a call from a person claiming to be a representa- tive from the Social Securi- ty Administration and tell- ing you there is an issue with your social security number. Their goal is to ob- tain your personal informa- tion, including your social security number. The call- er may even tell you that ad- ditional funds or rebates are possible, but they need your personal information to pro- ceed. Anyone wanting to report a call from someone they suspect was impersonating a Social Security Admin- istration employee should contact the Office of the In- spector General at 1-800 - 269 -0271. Indiana State Police are offering the following tips: • Don't assume the call- er identification information is accurate. Scammers use "spoofing" technology to trick caller ID. • If you don't recognize the phone number, don't an- swer. • Don't call a phone num- ber left on your voice mail by a robocaller. • Social Security Admin- istration employees will nev- er threaten you to obtain in- formation or promise bene- fits in exchange for informa- tion from you. • Never give your per- sonal information over the phone or email. • Never make a payment by using prepaid cards or wire transfer. These trans- actions are nearly impossi- ble to recover. Charger Brigade places third at Castle competition Pike Central Marching Band placed third in compe- tition at Castle High School on Saturday. "We scored higher than the week before, which is always the goal," said Pike Central Band Director Chris Ashworth. "We were placed in a class higher than the first week and had to compete against Boonville High School. They have an amazing show and rightfully deserved their first place. We were only a couple points out of second. This next week, we will be in a lower class and be against groups closer to our size. With that being said, look- ing at overall scores, all three bands competing in our class this weekend are within one point of each oth- er. It will be a great competi- tion," said Ashworth. Pike Central competes at Evansville North High School on Saturday. They are scheduled to compete at 6:26 p.m. EDT.
