C-12 Wednesday, September 11, 2019 The Press-Dispatch SCHOOL Submit school news: Email: schoolnews@pressdispatch.net Deadline: Noon on Friday Petersburg Elementary Winslow Elementary Kindergartners Haiden Cook and Trey Cross- ley have a good time during kindergarten recess. The kindergarten class tested their self-control. Do not touch the shaving cream until the teachers says. They were so giddy. After their math test, they did numbers and shapes in shaving cream, and then, of cours,e a little free play. Fifth grade students Jaylynn Miley and Krissy Grierson practice folding the flag. Tyler Mason and Rylon Evans had flag duty. Our teachers do a great job instilling patriotism and the impor- tance of our flag to their students. Ms. McCandless' kindergarten class visited the Otwell Post Office. They got to see all the different types of stamps, how they sort the mail and they got to stamp mail to cancel it. The post office gave them some goody bags to take with them. The kids were great and so excited. OMA fifth graders took advantage of the beautiful morning by taking a nature walk. They were collecting different types of leaves needed for their project. Michael Richard visited OMA to speak with all the stu- dents about Boy Scouts. Shawn Condra and Rylon Evans are all smiles in class. Carter Bennett from Mrs. An- derson's third grade class gets ready for art class to begin. Brayleigh DeWeese works on her paper in Stephanie Shedd's class as they learn about healthy teeth. First grader Austin Smith enjoyed swinging at recess. Mrs. Nicholson's students working on count- ing and number identification. Noelle Gibson, Brayson Rice, Aria Lemasters and Mikel Dubon help each other complete the activity together. CALENDAR Sept. 11– In honor of the 9/11 victims, their family members, survivors, rescue workers and volunteers, we are wearing red, white and blue and will have a special moment of silence. Robotics Team practice, after school till 5 p.m. Sept. 12– Monthly perfect attendance award. Sept. 16 – Robotics Team practice, after school till 5 p.m. Sept. 18 – Robotics Team practice, after school till 5 p.m. Sept. 23– Robotics Team practice, after school till 5 p.m. Sept. 25 – Robotics Team practice, after school till 5 p.m. Sept. 23-27– Second grade will celebrate "John- ny Appleseed Week." MENU Thursday, September 12: Sloppy joe on bun, sweet potato fries, baked beans, snickerdoodle cookie and fruit. Friday, September 13: Chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, buttered corn and fruit. Monday, September 16: Pepperoni pizza, breadstick, garden salad, broccoli floret, marinara sauce and fruit. Tuesday, September 17: Grilled cheese sandwich, tater tots, celery, cucumber slices and fruit. Wednesday, September 18: Chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, buttered carrots, carnival cookie and fruit. CALENDAR Sept. 11– Patriot's Day – We will show support to those who lost their lives on 9/11 and to honor the heroes who worked to save them by wearing red, white and blue. We will also have a moment of silence at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 14– Winslow Com- munity Festival and Light- up Parade Sept. 19 & 26 – J.A.M. Club for third and fourth grades Sept. 19 – P TO Meeting 3:45 p.m., Cafeteria Sept. 20 – Final Friday/ Popcorn Friday, P TO will be selling popcorn the final Fridays of each month for 50 cents. Student Council Dress-up Friday, wear favorite sports team shirt. Sept. 23-26 – College Go Week – Dress up days to be announced. Sept. 26 – Monthly Box- top Turn-in Day, Classroom winner announced at end of each grading period. Sept. 27– Flex Day, No school for students, E-learn- ing day.
