Petersburg Farmers Market every Saturday morning until Sept. 28 on 8th St., next to the Court- house in Petersburg. There were no postcards at Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598. Winslow Patoka River is still low but with not much rain, it will proba- bly stay low, unless they release some water from Patoka Lake. I've heard that it's high. The air conditioners are still on with the temps in the high 80s to low 90s, but the humidity is in the muggy range. I mentioned we had rain showers last Tuesday that lasted about one hour. We had wind along with the rain but in Illinois along Route 15, they had bad storms that brought up warn- ings and watches. To start off August events, there was the Oakland City Sweet Corn Festival and the Zoar Mosquito Fest. Norm and I were asked if we would like to go get some ice cream from Dee and, of course, I said, "yes." So, we drove to the Sweet Corn Fest, where the Winslow Masons were set up and their flavors were strawberry on a cone but mine was strawberry and mint chip in a cup. We saw Jerry, Rosella and some of the Masons whose names I can't re- member, then we saw Terry McGre- gor, who was seated with the stars run- ning for office. There we met Michael McGregor, who was running for office. Melvin was there and we saw Steve and Amy, and some Winslow stars, Oakland City Lion Mr. Lefler and listened to some fine music. Kayna and Laura stopped by for about an hour or so. Kyana has already start- ed school on August 1 and meeting some new friends. That flower that popped up and it has three pink blooms on a stem with no leaves, I have seen more around the town, but I have no idea what it is called. The Winslow Community Cen- ter has one blooming also. Our Winslow Community Festival meetings are going well, so if your group, organization, or if you would like to join in on all the fun that will be happening, then come to our meetings. Vendors who want to set up your 10x10 spaces for $10 can purchase one form any Winslow Beautification Commit- tee member. The Frozen T-Shirt con- test will be back this year. Your plac- es to have that family fun are at Riv- erside Park, Center Street and Main Street. There will be shuttles from both places. My mother, Mildred, will be here for about one month, going from one fam- ily reunion to another family reunion. Terri Ann will also be here some of those days. So, as the lights begin to dim on this week, keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see what your area has in store for your eyes, stop for school buses and the children get- ting on and off. The depth of utility lines varies and there may be multiple utility lines in a common area. Whether it is a small proj- ect like planting a tree, or a larger one such as hiring a professional to install a lawn irrigation system, smart digging means calling 811 before each job.
