Winslow lost another star, Bill Moore, who passed on June 2, 2019, at age 75. His favorite spot was to sit by the river and listen and see the won- ders around the area. June 21 - Summer begins - now the hot and humid weather begins. Petersburg Farmers Market has be- gun every Saturday morning on 8th St. by the Pike County Courthouse until Sept. 28. Winslow seniors meet on Monday and Tuesday at the Community Center. Petersburg seniors meet on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in the courthouse basement. Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598 had no postcards or notes this week. Winslow Patoka River was over its banks over the weekend, but now it has dropped some. We have had some rain and just the other day, we had some strong thunderstorms come into Winslow. The trees blew from side to side and the rain with the wind caused a whiteout for a minute or two. We had a few limbs to pick up. The temps have been really great that I opened the win- dows again with temps in the 70s and lows were in the 50s to 60s. Now the air conditioner is back on with temps in the 80s and lows in the high 60s to low 70s, with that dreaded high humidity. Norm and I have a recycled back porch with steps and last Wednesday morning, we put up a handrail to those steps. I believe we did a good job be- cause it's solid and I can get up and down those steps with ease. Did I tell you all that Terri Ann took our mom to get her hair cut and a perm in it? She looks re- ally great with some curl. The Winslow Zoning Board that met on the first Thursday has been changed to meet again in September because of the summer and ballgames, plus vacations. In a fire dept. training seminar, I got to ride in the fire truck for my first time ever. It was a thrill for me to see the countryside from another type of view. Yes, the steps to get up into it were real high for me, but I had some help from Norm. He gave me a boost. Have you ever seen an ink pen that looked like a skinny girl? Mine was giv- en to me by Vernon and she stands up- right. She has brown hair done up in a flip, big blue eyes, a big smile and arms that move. So, I got her to wave and shake hands, her top is pink with a stethoscope around her neck and a long blue skirt that goes down to her blue shoes that stand her up. The words along her skirt say Golden Liv- ing. She is so, so cute. Oh, her shoes come off to use the ink pen. Mom is back home Saturday or Sun- day, June 8 or 9, and it was a pleasure to see her again. She may come again in a few months and maybe see some friends and relatives. I know it's only three months until the Light-Up Winslow Parade on Sep- tember 21, 2019, but have you thought of what you will put in and light up on this 14th year? As the lights begin to dim on this week's ramblings, keep an eye on fam- ily and friends, especially during these humid days and nights. Slow down and don't be in such a hurry. You will get to the place you are going to at about the same time, but this way you can see all the wonders in your neck of the woods. Then, as I always tell you, smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week. It also cheers that person up and you if a smile and wave are passed on. Happy Father's Day! Perhaps I'm not an ani- mal person. I've loved my dogs, rabbits, hamsters and fish over the years, and I love living in the wild among the woodland crea- tures, but for as much as I dislike the idea of goat yoga, I hate the kitty cafe premise even more. At least during yoga you are supposed to get sweaty and gross, so maybe the goat addition isn't that dras- tic when you're already in a room full of filthy animals. Yoga is supposed to be kin- da disgusting. Getting cof- fee and a croissant with a friend is not. When I im- agine the kitten cafe, all I see are tumbleweeds of cat fur floating across the tables and leaving behind black hairs on my clotted cream. In the corner lurk the beautiful blue-eyed fe- lines, licking themselves while keeping direct eye contact with you as they plot your demise. Should they poison the soup or merely trip the server, thus causing her to spill the scalding-hot broth on your lap? So many options. Meow. Above your head, cats jump from one climb- ing tower to another, inter- rupting any opportunity for a fluid conversation you may have wanted to have with your pal. Occasionally, the cat misses and lands on your table. Of course, the cat is fine, having landed on its feet, but your pastry is smushed, and you die of a heart attack from the sheer surprise of it all. I have a new business idea. It's a place called No Frills, where you can have a drink, chat and even do a headstand, with nothing added.
