WHS Class of 1944 celebrates 75 years The Winslow High School Class of 1944 grad- uated 44 members. At the ceremony, there were eight flagged-draped empty chairs representing the members who were already in military service to serve their country, and the world, during World War II. Other members would enter the military services within weeks. All came back alive after many life-threatening experiences. On May 25, 2019, five of the living members of that class met at the Marvin Snyder Communi- ty Center for their 75-year reunion. During the in- tervening years, they have developed close friend- ships, which enhance each year's visit. Members present were: Anna Belle (Bratton) Benjamin, of Avon, Juanita (Brown) Cooper, of Tell City, Marilee (Russ) Hume, of Winslow, Gerald Stinson, of Bloomington and of Naples, Fla., and Eugene Thurman, of Henderson, Ky. Donald Hume attended as a honorary member, having started with the class but left, then he finished high school after returning from military service and received his diploma with the Class of 1946. Other members believed to be living are: Lou- ise (Stephens) Burns, of Princeton, Mary Lee (Car- penter) Russ, of Columbia, Tenn., Mary (Nalley) Thompson, of Ft. Branch, Daisy (Allen) Ward, of Tampa, Fla., and Eva (Thompson) Williams, of Evansville. Guests were: Vicki Bohall, Wanda Williams, Pat- ty Jones, Dee Jay Owens, Lily Bennett and Darcee (Hume) Thoren. When a member or spouse dies, the class sends a memorial donation to the WHS Alumni Associa- tion Scholarship Fund. This year, The Lily Founda- tion doubled that donation. They parted with sincere resolve to meet next year, same time, same place.
