Lauren Vaughn got an RBI on an er- ror in the seventh, but two more runs was all the team could muster in the loss. Forest Park had opened the game with three runs on a homer in the three-run first inning and crossed the plate with four runs in the fifth, following a Charger three-run spurt at the top of the inning. Each teamed score a run in the sixth and then the Chargers threatened in the top of the seventh, but fell short by one to tie. An error got one run for Forest Park in the sixth, prior to Alize Padgett singling one run in at the top of the inning. Padgett went 4.2 innings, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs, while walking two and striking out one. Kenzie Powell came on in relief and pitched one and a third, allowing one run and one hit. Vaughn, Padgett and Mallory Hickey had three hits each and Vaughn col- lected three RBIs, Hick- ey two and Padgett one. Vaughn had two doubles, and Hickey and Johnson one each. Olivia Stun- kel came in to relieve in the seventh inning and had ze- ro walks and one strikeout to end the contest. Pike Central's Alize Padgett went two innings, giving up seven hits, six earned runs, a homerun by Brenna Blume and one walk. Kenzie Powell stepped in for the remaining four innings, allowing six hits, three runs with two strikeouts and one walk. Lauren Vaughn and Han- nah Carnahan each had a single in the 9 -0 road trip loss. Seven fielding errors on the part of the Lady Char- gers hurt their cause on the defensive end. Vaughn was one for three and Carnahan was one of two at the plate. Padgett gave up the Blume home run, but only walked one and allowed one earned run. Powell notched two strikeouts, zero earned runs and one walk. Steady offense from La- dy Titans Kat Dickenson, Hannah Long, Lauren Lin- gafelter, Emilee Edwards, Colby Rogers, Olivia Money, Lexie Stunkel and Brenna Blume produced runs in the first four innings, enough to amass the 9 -0 win. The de- fense did not take a back- seat, with an error free af- ternoon. Blume added to her col- lection of homeruns and Lauren Lingafelter dou- bled with one RBI. Blume marked two RBIs, and Long, Rogers, Lingafelter, Lexie Stunkel, Emilee Ed - wards and Lauren Elpers each got an RBI. Dickenson went three for three, and Ed- wards, Lingafelter and Long were two for three. Edwards and Long each had two sto- len bases. Char- ger senior Noah Onyett blistered Prides Creek for a 34, which Coach Jarrod Gideon thinks is a school record. Onyett started hot as he birdied holes one and two, and then got another at hole seven. He gave one back on hole 8 with a bo- gey, and then three putted the ninth green for par as he was threatening a four under 32 that would have been a course record in high school play. Coach Gideon said Pike Central's golf records are not well documented, but he thinks 34 is the Pike Central record. Along with Onyett's 34, the Chargers' Austin Holder had a 39, Hayden Kabrick a 41 and Judah Evans had a 43. Those four scores gave the Chargers a 157, their lowest team score of the year. It was a good day for all the Char- gers as all six varsity play- ers shot 46 or better. Jay- lan Mills had a 46 and Cut- ter Reed a 44. North Posey shot a 167 with Caleb Wassmer, who has already signed with University of Evansville, shooting a 36. Bosse had a team score of 225. Onyett ties school record Chargers belt Wood Memorial 18-8 Charger Brennon Benton was the big gun for Pike Cen- tral in the 18 -8 rough-hous- ing they gave the Wood Me- morial Trojans at their place this past Saturday. Benton's RBI double in the third and then homerun in the fourth sparked the Chargers to a 18 -3 ball game, until the Tro- jans caught fire for a five-run fifth, but it was too little, too late to keep it from a 10 -run rule ending. A large part of the contest was Charger base running. Joey Church and Kyle Wil- liams stole twice and Ben- ton, Gabe Caldwell and Con- nor O'Neal each had one. O'Neal and Williams each had three hits and Benton, Eli Coleman, Draven Huff, Conner O'Neal and Williams had two base hits. Trojan Harden Hunter went two for three with a double and two RBIs to lead Wood Memorial. Team- mates Jordan Cooper, Isa- iah Norrick and Noah Ca- sey had one hit each to help the cause. Lady Chargers MS softball defeats Heritage Hills Pike Central MS Char- gers A team took home a 4-1 victory over Heritage Hills on Thursday night. Chloe Williams was the winning pitcher for Pike Central. She allowed three hits and one run over five innings, striking out ten and walking zero. Karley Kavanaugh, Del- aney Welch, Williams, Lex- ie Onyett and Madelyn Fis- cus each collected one hit to lead Pike Central A team. The Lady Chargers B team also defeated Heri- tage Hills 10 -4, thanks to a strong start. Myra Hensler led the Chargers to victory in the circle. She pitched all four innings, allowing five hits and four runs while strik- ing out six. Zoey Myers led the B team with two hits in two at bats. PCMS softball first losses of season The Lady Chargers mid- dle school A team fell to Barr Reeve by a score of 5 -0 on Monday evening. Chloe Williams led things off on the mound for the team. She surrendered five runs on six hits over four innings, striking out eight. The Chargers A team had 3 hits on the night. Del- aney Welch had two hits in two at bats to lead the team and Lexie Onyett had one. The Lady Chargers middle school B team al- so lost to Barr Reeve by a score of 3-1. Both teams were strong on the pitch- ing mound. Lexie Onyett started the game on the mound for the B team. She surrendered three runs on six hits over four innings, striking out five. The Lady Chargers tied the game 1-1 in the first in- ning, but Barr Reeve pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. Wren Kabrick and Kar- ley Kavanaugh each col- lected one hit to lead the Pike Central B team. Another win for PCMS softball The Lady Chargers A team defeated South Knox on Wednesday evening by a score of 2-0. Chloe Williams earned the victory for Pike Cen- tral. She pitched all five innings, allowing three hits and zero runs, while striking out ten and walk- ing zero. Alyna Sharp led the Pike Central A team with two hits in two at bats. Del- aney Welch also had one hit on the evening. The Lady Chargers B team also defeated South Knox by a score of 8 -4. Karley Kavanaugh started on the mound for the Chargers. She allowed two hits, while striking out four batters. Lexie Onyett came in to pitch the last in- ning in relief, allowed no hits and struck out one. The Chargers tallied 8 hits on the night. Lakin Sorgius and Onyett led the team with two hits. Ka- vanaugh, Hailey Fulcher, Macey Stilwell and Jaidyn Gogel each had one hit. Indiana's Second Free Fishing Day is Saturday, May 18 Bring the family to the lo- cal fishing hole on Saturday, May 18, the second of four Free Fishing Days in Indi- ana. On Free Fishing Days, Indiana residents can fish public waters without a fish- ing license or salmon/trout stamp.
