Poplar Street, Petersburg 4x400 relay is fourth By James Capozella Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's Tyler Kirby placed second in the Tell City-hosted Pocket Athletic Con- ference Championships this past Thurs- day, clearing 13-feet on his second try. He missed twice at 12' and three times at the 13'6" height. Kirby said he was having trou- ble getting vertical with his feet too close to the bar that night. Patriot Alex Hasty won the event with a 14' height on his third try. Charger sophomore Garrett Boyd was out at 10'. Kirby's finish was the best individual per- formance for the Chargers, placing seventh as a team with 28 points. The next best fin- ish for Pike Central was the 4x400 meter relay consisting of Ijaa Chambers, James Hughes, Sam Theising and Jacob Vest. They clocked 3:50.64 for fourth place, ahead of Southridge, Forest Park, Tecumseh, North Posey and South Spencer. Chambers, Dane Gladish, A J Hill and Trent Zimmerman teamed up for a sixth place in the 4x800 meter relay clocking 9:01.29. The 4x100 meter relay team com- posed of James Hughes, Tyler Kirby, Sam Theising and Colt Armstrong were disqual- ified in their event. Sam Theising ran a 46.16 to seventh in the 300 hurdles and Jackson Smith was 16th in 53.29. Jacob Vest clocked 55.26 for seventh in the 400 -meter dash and Simon McCrary was 12th in 1:01.16. Nate Woolery finished seventh in the 3200 -meter run with a time of 10 :42.47. Teammate A.J. Hill did not record a Chargers finish third in PAC KIRBY TAKES SECOND AT PAC CHAMPIONSHIPS Charger Tyler Kirby cleared the bar cleanly in the early going of the PAC championships. Kirby placed second with a vault of 13 feet. The discus event at the PAC championships was a very twisting event re- quiring speed and timing. By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's boys' golf team and se- nior Charger Noah Onyett both placed third in the Pocket Athletic Confer- ence Championships on Saturday. On- yett shot a 79 and was one of only three players in the conference to break 80 on a brutally hard course. Christmas Lake hosted the conference meet. Due to heavy rains, they had not mowed the rough in some time. Pike Central Coach Jarrod Gideon said in many places the rough was six to eight inches deep. "No- ah hit a shot into the rough and you could barely see his ball at the bottom of it. It was just unplayable in places," said Gideon. He said Onyett's 79 included a triple bogey on the par four second hole after hitting the ball into the rough. Caleb Wassmer, of North Posey, and Rylan Cox, of Heritage Hills, were co-medalist, with both shooting 76s. The top eight players won All-Confer- ence honors. They were Wassmer and Cox at 76, Onyett 79, Brent Treter, of Forest Park, 80, Ethan Kane, of Heri- tage Hills, 83, Colin Noble, of Tell City, 84, and Josh Nelson and Carter Cox, both of Heritage Hills, shot 85. Host Heritage Hills took advantage of their home course and shot a 329 for an 18 -stroke margin over second place North Posey, who shot a team 357. Pike Central was just two strokes back in a tightly-packed group from sec- ond to sixth. Tell City was fourth with 361, Southridge fifth with 364 and For- est Park sixth at 367. The others were Gibson Southern in seventh at 373 and Tecumseh at 470. South Spencer did not have a team score. Onyett led the Chargers with his 79. A fter shooting a 41 on the front, large- ly due to the triple bogey on the second hole, he turned in a 38 on the back nine. Cutter Reed had a 92 that was made up of a 41 on the front and 51 on the back. Austin Holder was consistent with a 47 on the front and 48 on the back for a 93, while Jaylan Mills had a 52 on the front and 44 on the back for a 96. "We didn't play as well as we had hoped, but Heritage Hill played really well," said Coach Gideon. "I'm really pleased with our kids this year. They are good golfers, but more importantly, they are better kids. No- ah was the last group to finish. Even though we hadn't played as well as we wanted, all of our kids were out there on the 18th green cheering him on as he finished. The other kids' teams had left and gone back to the clubhouse. I think that speaks highly of our kids," said Gideon. Colt Armstrong has plenty of clearance above the bar in the PAC high jump event. Lady Chargers blowout Raiders 15-4 A big 15 -4 win over the Southridge Lady Raiders this past Monday followed an 8 -7 road trip loss on Thursday to the Forest Park Rangers. The Chargers jumped to an early advantage, scoring three in the first, five in the second and four in the third, before the Lady Raid- ers got any offense going. Emily Car- nahan got the ball rolling on the Forest Park field, taking it over the fence with a solo homer. The five-run second inning included RBIs by Carnahan, Alize Padgett, Mal- lory Hickey and Kenzie Powell. Powell was on the mound for six innings and al- lowed nine hits, two earned runs, four walks and struck out two, Addie John- son and Aubre Dawson were three of four from the plate. Carnahan netted two hits, three runs and three RBIs. Hannah Carnahan, Hickey, Hallie Bai- ley, Powell and Padgett each had one hit. Emily Carnahan, Johnson, Padgett and Powell all doubled for the cause and amassed eight RBIs. The Chargers scat- tered 13 hits in a contest they led by as much as 12 runs.
