SPIRIT OF GENEROSITY Shakespeares Directed by Robert Falls AD ROBERT FALLS DARING NEW PRODUCTION TAKES US INTO THE HEART OF SHAKESPEARES DARK COMEDY, IN WHICH VIRTUE AND VICE COLLIDEAND LUST AND THE LAW ARE INEXTRICABLY ENTWINED. MARCH 9 APRIL 14 Joined by Cubs pitching coach Chris Bosio, second baseman Darwin Barney reads to students during the Cubs Caravan in January 2012. continued from page 64 Librarys summer reading programs, which aim to help more than 50,000 youth. I also believe were the first major league sports team to have our own float in the LGBT Pride Parade; many associates join to show support for the LGBT community and Pride month, and thats something Im very proud of. Last April we hosted our second Bricks and Ivy Charity Ball, our major annual fundraiser, which also serves as a kickoff to the season. We had 100 percent participation by all players and coachesevery single one of them came to show their supportand we raised $1.1 million at that event. Our third Bricks and Ivy Ball is April 11, and were hoping again to have such great support from the coaches and players. For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of our work is meeting the people were supporting. Last summer I received an e-mail from the father of a child I had met during a Cubs Caravan visit at the old Childrens Hospital. He is a big White Sox fan, and his son was a big Cubs fan. The son had been fighting brain tumors nearly his whole life. I had several minutes to visit with them, and unfortunately later that spring he passed away. Because the family spent so much of their sons life in the old Childrens Hospital, I asked the father to be my guest at the ribbon cutting for the new hospital. He was able to see how amazing it ishow much his son would have loved it, how much more comfortable a facility it is. He brought pictures of his son with his Cubs memorabilia and told us how much our visit meant to him and how important our support for the Childrens Hospital is. It was just a very touching moment. Whether its Lakeview Pantry (a food bank in Wrigleyville whose Bricks and Ivy Ball managers are incredibly committed) or Housing Opportunities for When: April 11, 6 PM Women (whose support has helped Where: Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier, 600 E.
