FEBRUARY 2013 FREEMAN & ENTERPRISE LAKE COUNTRY • Page 5A Glazed figural group beautiful example of Rosenthal porcelain Q. I have inherited this from my aunt who had strong German ties. Is it anything special? – T.D., Franklin BARBARA EASH A. In the late 19th century, Phillip Rosenthal purchased white porcelain ware and his wife, Maria, would hand-paint the items. He was convinced she was a gifted artist and sold porcelain pieces door to door. It wasn't long before many others realized her work had a captivating appeal and was desirable. In operation by 1891, the Rosenthal Porcelain Factory still remains in production and has helped Selb, Germany, become know as, "The Porcelain Town." Your glazed figural group has a datemark of 1934-1956, model #1553 and the word "Handgemalt," meaning hand-made. Your figurine sits on a 7-inch oval porcelain flooring with a height of 10 inches. Details of the lady's fitted waist, hat plume-feathers, slender ribs on the Russian wolfhound, and drooping of the Antiques Appraised dog leash make this a truly beautiful example. Value: $425 Q. I would like an appraisal of this wringer washing machine. – A.M., Waukesha A. Did you ever hear of a washer that could be used as a meat grinder? This multiplemotor, Maytag model 30-31, had a dual purpose. It could accommodate a special attachment (sold separately) that aided in butchering day Once the wringer compo. nent was lifted off, a heavy-duty , "special feature appliance" would fit on the post. The gasoline-powered engine allowed rural customers without electric- ity to upgrade to an automatic washing machine. The Maytag Company of Newton, Iowa, has always been well-known for quality and long-lasting appliances. Today when most wringer-wash, ing machines have no value and are relegated as flower pots, this model is still being used, especially in Amish communities. Your 1937 square-tub machine remains in good working condition and has not been repainted. Value: $375 Have an item for appraisal? If you have an item you'd like to be appraised, mail entries to Waukesha Antique Shop, 1427 E. Racine Ave., Unit E-2, Waukesha, WI 53186. Send sharp, well-lit photos of front, back and underside of your item, and measurements are important. List any known history or even hearsay , length of ownership and all markings, even partial ones. Include your name, address and phone number. No photos can be returned and no purchase of antiques will occur. (Barbara Eash is a member of the Certified Appraisers Guild of America, specializing in appraisals of antiques and collectibles and has extensive experience writing and speaking about antiques.) 86th Annual Tom McNulty Memorial Coon Feed DELAFIELD – Lillian McNulty sits in the corner, wearing an 86th annual Tom McNulty Memorial Coon Feed T-shirt as she dines on the first plate of slowroasted raccoon meat served last month at American Legion Post 196.The fundraiser started by her late husband Tom McNulty benefits local youth programs.
