One postcard was sent to Sweets Column, Winslow, Ind. 47598 this week. Postcard # 656 looks like an old print with many men who are wear- ing shirts. The ladies have long dresses to the ground, and both are wearing some sort of hat. Behind them is a camel with a rider, a real- ly big Ferris wheel, a hot air balloon, some buildings are domes, some structures are tall and slender and some have bright colors on them. Chicago Tribune Art Supple- ment July 9, 1893. It's called "Along the Plaisance," the Midway Plaisance, World's Columbia Exposi- tion, 1893. It reads: "Hi, Sweets, Happy Easter! Janie Tormohlen" Janie, thank you for the postcard of the days of years ago in Chicago and have a wonderful Easter. EVENTS March 15 -17 - Ireland's St. Patrick's Day Celebration-Parade is Sunday. Winslow Patoka River has gone down a little from the rim, but the rain and storms came last Saturday, March 9. Winslow, last week, started off with snow showers with sleet, then snow again with ½ inch on the grassy areas. The streets were fine and only wet. The wind chill was minus zero for a few days, but the temps were in the 20s in the day and teens at night. It didn't start warming up until Thursday, where it rose to 37 with the snow showers that began again early on Friday morning for a few hours with a day- time high of 45. Have you seen the birds in your area? We have blue jays and cardinals and some gray-like small birds. I don't know their name, but the song they sing in the morning makes you think spring is here. Spring begins in a week! Yay! I'm ready to work in the yard and get out of the house. The Winslow Fire Department had received the 10 smoke detectors from Homeland Security, and Jason Bot- toms, the fire chief, has reported that all 10 were installed in Winslow homes. Now if you still need a smoke detector, then let Jason know and you will be on the list when more come their way. Norm and I went out for wood last Friday, March 1. We went out again last Wednesday the 6th and got more. Now the cabin is comfy and cozy. My mom is here for one more week, and Terri Ann has been in Winslow last week also for a visit. She still hopes to see everyone, but with being 92, some days are better than others. She tries to keep going. Well, it's time to dim the lights on this week's ramblings because I can't remember what to write about since I didn't jot it down. Anyway, keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see the wonders all around your area. Be kind to others and as I always say, smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week.
