"Since your standing with God is based not on your righteousness, but in Christ's, in moments of failure, you can run to him and not from Him"—Paul D. Tripp, Devotional. "Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympa- thize with our weakness- es, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are, yet was without sin. Let us then ap- proach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need" (Hebrews 4:14-16, NIV ). Be sure to remember those in our churches who are in need of prayer, our country and our leaders. We invite you to worship with us at any of our ser- vices. CHURCH Corner of Center and Sycamore Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; Wednesday Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. It's good to know that we have a God who is not wait- ing to condemn us or de- stroy us because of rebel- lious, ungodly ways and ac- tions. It's also good to know that God is not standing with an ax to cut us off or light- ening belt to strike us when we have strayed. Instead, He is wanting to rush to us when we turn back to Him. Our God is looking for us to reach out to Him, so that we can experience His best. "But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet'" (Luke 15:22). "For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found, so they began to celebrate" (Luke 15:24). By the words "to save" we understand the whole of the great work of salvation, from the first holy desire on- ward to complete sanctifica- tion. The words are multum in parro: indeed, here is all mercy in one word. Christ is not only "mighty to save" those who repent, but He is able to make men repent. He will carry those to heav- en who believe; but He is, moreover, mighty to give men new hearts and to work faith in them. He is mighty to make the man who hates holiness love it, and to con- strain the despiser of His name to bend the knee be- fore Him. Nay, this is not all the meaning, for the divine power is equally seen in the after-work. The life of a believer is a series of miracles wrought by "the Mighty God." The bush burns, but is not con- sumed. He is mighty to keep His people holy after He has made them so, and to pre- serve them in his fear and love until he consummates their spiritual existence in heaven. Christ's might doth not lie in making a believer and then leaving him to shift for himself; but He who be- gins the good work carries it on; He who imparts the first germ of life in the dead soul, prolongs the divine existence, and strengthens it until it bursts asunder ev- ery bond of sin, and the soul leaps from earth, perfected in glory. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free and join us for servic- es. I am sure will leave be- ing blessed. May God bless each and everyone. Using this save meant if you were stuck on a question or if you wanted someone else's input, you could "call" them and ask. Often, I find, in life, we want to use this feature. When life comes at us with all it has we often find our- selves needing to make big decisions quickly. Or we find ourselves in tempting situa- tions and don't know what to do. If only we could phone a friend in the middle of that situation. What I've learned though in life that the best way to get through, stay strong, and keep my integrity with my goals and resolutions, is to have community. It's using phone a friend before I need it. That way in the midst of the hardest choices when I can't make that phone call I know what a friend would tell me. Prayer is similar, the more we pray, the more VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrigh- teous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon" (Isa- iah 55:7). God has various ways of awakening a drowsy con- science. Sometimes He does it through the conversation of a friend; sometimes by the public ministry of the Word; sometimes by an occurrence arising out of men's wicked- ness, or in some way con- nected with it. But by what- ever means it is called unto activity, it will make us hear when it speaks to us. In some, conscience in- spires only terror. And in how many does it produce no other effect than this? They see how grievously they have offended God; and instead of repenting of their sins, they sink into despondency. Time cannot heal our in- iquities. Forgetfulness is not the cure for our sin. Oblivi- ousness is not the redeem- er of the world. How then can I get rid of the torment and the evils of an accusing memory? The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth from all sin. That is the kind of answer men want, when they feel all their yesterdays conspiring to urge an indictment against them. Chad Searls, Pastor
