Jessica Kartzinel Wealth Advisor, Vice President of Investments UBS I " am one of the Women to Watch because financial security is extremely important to people," suggests Jessica Kartzinel, "and I think that, especially for this coming year, it's particularly in the forefront of a lot of people's minds." Kartzinel has been a financial advisor in Southern Nevada for 18 years, striving to make a difference in the community by making a difference to clients. To accomplish that, she develops disciplined long-term investment strategies and solutions for highnet-worth individuals, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, business owners, and philanthropic organizations. "My clients want me by their side holding their hands through all this, making sure they're reaching all their investment goals," she notes. "But at the same time, what's more important is that they're with somebody that they trust, and somebody they respect." Utilizing her all-female team's extensive knowledge and specialized expertise, she provides highly personalized service and employs a rigorous process to meet their financial objectives and those of future generations. What are the benefits of having an all-female team? "That's a great question" she says. "I think that the industry is about 10 percent female throughout the country. Personally, I think that women are very good listeners. I don't think it's just important to understand stocks, mutual funds and insurance. I think it's even more important to understand what it is that your client needs. "I think that when it's women sitting on the other side of the desk we are great communicators and fantastic listeners; I think we really hear what our clients say. And unfortunately, throughout the years I've been in the industry I've heard of clients coming in and sitting in front of their male advisor and not understanding what he's saying,." Kartzinel is convinced that the year ahead will present some unusual issues for investors, and that personalized planning will be of utmost importance. And her clients appreciate it. — Howard Riell Dr. Eva Littman Practice Director, Founder Congratulations Red Rock Fertility Center D r. Eva Littman has never shied away from tough issues. Growing up in rural North Carolina, when she wanted to go to college, she tirelessly sought out scholarships, grants and other financial aid to help pay her way. She succeeded, and after graduating from Duke University's medical program and completing an infertility fellowship at Stanford, she set her sights on private practice in Southern Nevada. After five years, Red Rock Fertility Center boasts among the highest success rates in the Western region. In true underdog spirit, the fertility expert hasn't achieved that distinction by taking the easy route. Her center is known for taking on and succeeding with tough cases. "There are a lot of doctors out there who won't take you if you only have a two percent chance of getting pregnant. I don't even flinch about it," she said. Helping the center's success rate is a certified clean room used for IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). Littman said the room helps to keep embryos clear of any harmful debris or dust 20130128_VI01_I.indd 5 particles that could possibly damage them. "Just like lint on a microchip, dust can stress the embryos," she explained. With about 150 pregnancies per year at her center, Littman is not shying away from complex cases in the future as well. But the straightforward doctor, who in medical school was encouraged to try psychiatry because of her people skills, always thinks there's room for improvement on the people skills side. Fertility is a sensitive topic for men and women, and knowing how to communicate with them is important, she admits. "I always want to keep improving with customer service to make the experience better for patients," Littman added. "It's something you can always get better at." Littman is also conducting research on environmental impacts on embryos as well as the efficacy and best delivery methods of progesterone replacement therapies. In future years she isn't ruling out a position in government. -Brian Sodoma Nora Luna, Latino Program Manager, on your recognition as a "2013 Woman to Watch."
