According to preliminary data from the Milwaukee County Election Commission, 399,146 residents across Milwaukee and the 18 suburban com- munities cast absentee or in-person bal- lots in Tuesday's election. The county has 501,143 eligible voters. A m b e r Wichowsky, a politi- cal science profes- sor at Marquette University, said the 79.65 percent voter turnout across Milwaukee County is notable even in an election season that saw high numbers across the United States. "Turnout was up in Wisconsin, and it was up across the country," Wichowsky said. "You've got voters right now who are very engaged with politics." Statewide voter turnout hovered around 60 percent, based on prelimi- nary figures crunched the day after the election. Nationwide, estimates have the figure pegged around 58 percent. Milwaukee County garnered the spotlight early Wednesday morning as about 47,000 absentee ballots within the Milwaukee County voter turnout in midterm election reached nearly 80% See RESULTS on Page 14 Two-thirds support for Evers for governor tipped the scales for him Local news at your fingertips Visit www.gmtoday.com Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/MilwaukeePost Walker Evers November 17 & 18, 2018 Show Hours: Sat. 9am-5pm Sun. 9am-4pm Admission: $2.00 Seniors: $1.00 Military: $1.00 Old Fashion Flea Market Shop nearly 100 vendors selling: Antiques & Collectibles, Hand Crafts,Toys, Coins, Furniture and Homemade Pies, Pickles and much more!
