22 TEHAMA - THE MAGAZINE, October 2018 current Arts Council Chairman Robert Bird. "The most businesses that participated was an all-time high of 35, with estimated crowd attendance up to 5,000. We get many out-of- town visitors who return every year, some from as far away as the Bay Area." As the Annual ArtWalk gained prominence and permanence, the Arts Council looked for ways to give it a more professional look and create greater visibility. In 2008, Board member Basia Trout submitted a grant to the McConnell Foundation and the Arts Council received $6,350 for professional bow flags to put in front of each participating venue. Brochures for the ArtWalk are distributed around town a few days before and can be picked up beforehand or during the event at any of the participating venues. Posters placed in windows and in the planters along sidewalks alert the public to the up-coming event. Tree-lined sidewalks lit with festive holiday lights greet those attending the Friday evening event. Music fills the air with many venues featuring a band or individual musician as crowds stroll the streets to the next stop on the brochure map. The walk can be started at any of the participating venues identified with an ArtWalk bow flag in front. It's purposely limited to the downtown area so it can be walked. In addition to viewing the exhibits, in recent years Saturday has become family day, with children's activities and other appropriate events included. As the Tehama County Arts Council holds true to its mission of promoting the arts in Tehama County, it has been extremely gratifying to see growing signs of interest and participation in the arts in Tehama County coming from both inside and outside the community. The 16th Annual ArtWalk will take place Friday November 2, 5-9 pm and Saturday, November 3, 10 am – 3 pm. For information, www.tehamaarts.org Stop By for Fresh Food & Friendly Folks!
