PLEASE EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE! Council changes salary policy for PT employees moving to FT By Janice Barniak SG Star-Times Editor editor@sgstartimes.com Gibson County Council approved changing a clause in the salary ordinance to avoid treating longtime em- ployees as new hires Tues- day during their regular meeting at the North Annex. The policy issue came up when Recorder Tonya Thompson wanted to move an employee, who has been with her office for many years as a part-time employ- ee, into a full-time position vacated by an employee mov- ing to another place in the courthouse. According to the original salary ordinance, the part- time employee would have to take a $1,000 dock in pay for one year after hiring in, despite her experience. Rather than waive it for just the one employee, the council re-wrote the clause to waive the pay decrease for those already employed part- time by the county. The council discussed whether to have it take affect immediately or as of the first of the year. "I like the wording, I say we do it now" said Council- man Derek McGraw. The council voted unani- mously in favor of the mea- sure.
