Winslow has had some rain late Sunday night and again early Tuesday morn- ing that could have brought up the Patoka River here in Winslow. Some of the trees have started to change in- to their fall colors of yellow and have begun to fall. This means that more trees will soon have those beautiful colors we all love to see in this Fall season. Our hum- mingbirds, two of them, are still here and they aren't too afraid of us when we get near the feeders. I love to hear the humming of their little wings. The deer are still in our ar- ea of town where Laura had seen four crossing the road late one night, and I believe that is what the dogs are barking at or it could be a stray cat, but I hope it isn't a skunk. Speaking of skunks, have you traveled through Camp- belltown last week? Those stinky animals can be smelled in several areas through the four-mile area. Winslow has had anoth- er star who moved back, so welcome, Marge Woodard. Last week's long column had an award of Lion of the Year that was given to Lan- ora Kelley, and her and Ben- ny are doing well. Norm has been under the house again as he fixed or braced up the floor in five places and then he start- ed the insulating around the water pipes and heating unit. Norm is so kind, be- cause he is under the house fixing things to make the house comfortable in the winter, and I help by stay- ing on the outside. So to my hubby, Norm, thank you so much for all you do. Sorry for the headaches you got from the iron beams you hit. The heating in the cabin has begun, so when we got a chance again from all the festivals, it will be time to saw and chop our wood for those cozy and comfy win- ter nights. On the Pike County Tractor Drive, at the Zoar Church basement where we ate a delicious lunch, we saw and talked to Ruth Car- lisle, the mother of Rex and Max, she is looking great and reads the ramblings of Winslow. We talked to Jim and Sherry Lamey and saw their grandchildren. Did I mention the many yards that either had decorations of Fall or they had Hallow- een decorations set up? It's that time of year to decorate for the Winslow Halloween Yard Decoration that I love to see and give out my own little treat each year. There is one house that can't dec- orate like they would love to, but like I told them, next year will be bigger and bet- ter for them. Our friends, Tim and Jea- nette, needed a hand or two to hang a ceiling in a small room, and before long, they had lots of hands. Tim is do- ing well after his surgery and recovery. We hope the 2nd Buffalo Trace Festival in Petersburg went well and everyone had an enjoyable time. As the lights begin to dim on this weeks ramblings, keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see all the wonders in your neck of the woods. Always smile, wave, and say Hi to everyone you see this week. Postcards this week at Sweets Column Winslow, IN 47598 were two in the ol' mailbox. Post card # 651 has a train of red, white and blue lines, and a picture of a wooden building with a porch and a lean-to with two sets of steps to enter, a high pitched roof and a sign that says Wood & Swink and a large flagpole flying the American Flag. Trees are surrounding the area and a glimpse of the sun can be seen. Other writ- ing under the picture is 2015 stamp, Evinston paint out, October 19 -24, 2015, www. woodandswink.org The back of this postcard gives some his- tory where the proceeds are used to restore and protect the Wood & Swink Old Store and Post Office. This date or around this date you can come watch the artists paint and take home a painting in support of this worthy cause. It reads: This is same Post Office – Wood and Swink. The fishing here for crappie and BIG BASS in North Cen- tral Florida in Phenomenal Guide Trips available 352- 591-3493. Keep up the great work on Sweets Column. Postcard # 652 has pic- tured woods in the back- ground, a field of (looks like Black-eyed Susans) wild flowers of yellow with a black center, and a wood building (a different view) of the Wood & Swink Store and Post Office, an outhouse and a big wood barn with a coun- try road. It reads: Hello Pike Coun- ty, Faithful reader here ev- ery week. Former Pike res- ident. This postcard is from the oldest continuous oper- ating Post Office in Flori- da, was opened in 1882 and still in original building. It is called Wood & Swink. It is located in Evinston, Fla., 15 miles south of Gainesville. I now live in McIntosh, Fla., on a huge 12,500 acre lake, (Orange Lake) which is con- nected to Lochloosa Lake via Cross Creek. Made fa- mous by the novel The Year- ling. North Central, Fla., in the BIG BASS Capital of the world. And is one of the main reasons I moved here. Keep up the good work on the Sweets Column, as it is en- joyed. A Big Fan. Alan Jones – McIntosh is 15 miles South of Gainesville, Fla. P.S. (I grew up in Campbelltown). Thank you, Alan Jones, for postcards # 651 and # 652 of the Wood & Swink Store and Post Office and the his- tory that is all around your neck of the woods. This would be an awe- some place to see and if you are a fisherman of Big Bass, I take it; it's the best place to fish. The ramblings of Winslow will continue as long as I can write Sweets Column. Winslow Patoka River has gone down and the only rain I saw was last Friday the 5th in Spurgeon and it really came down, but it last- ed for about one hour, then the sun came out and the humidity was back for the weekend. Speaking of the weekend, we were at the Spurgeon Monroe Festival on Friday night, where we served pork chop dinners and desserts that were de- licious, then later on, there was the movie night, and hot
