I worked as a reporter with WFPC Radio, as mayor of Petersburg, and now as a county council member and businessman. As county council members, just as with any business, we must make sure that tax dollars are spent wisely and frugally. I have consistently taken a conservative approach to spending tax money. I'm asking for your vote to continue helping Pike County watch its bottom line. ank you for your consideration, Randy Harris District #1 County Councilman E S C A P E MOOSE LODGE 115 Pike Ave., Petersburg LIVE MUSIC FEATURING Dustin Arnold, Matt Sullivan & Joe Dillon MUST BE 21 TO ENTER CHEESE BURGERS $3.00 after 8 p.m. DINING ROOM OPEN 5-8 P.M GAMES & CONTESTS • Jimmy Buffett Look-a-Like Contest • Hula Hoop Contest • Limbo Contest • Lost Shaker of Salt Hunt TO Saturday, October 13 Doors Open at 4 p.m. CORNHOLE TOURNEY Begins at 5 p.m. ($5 entry fee) The Pike Central High School marching band – better known as the Char- ger Brigade – is advancing to the Indiana State School Music Association's Scholas- tic Class Finals after receiv- ing a gold rating during the Scholastic Class Prelims at Jasper on Saturday, Oct. 6. "The band had a great performance and placed fifth overall," said Pike Cen- tral band director Chris Ash- worth. "They also received a Distinguished Music Award, which means that their mu- sic score was high." "The band had to earn a certain score – scores are copyrighted and not allowed to be published – to qualify for the finals," Ashworth add- ed. "The band exceeded that score." The finals for the Scholas- tic Class – which takes into consideration band size, as well as school enrollment – will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis. Pike Central, which is scheduled to perform at 12:18 p.m., Eastern time, will be competing in the Scholas- tic Class B Division against 18 other schools – Corydon Central, Danville, Eastern (Pekin), Evansville Reitz, Henryville, Heritage, Mad- ison Consolidated, Man- chester, Morristown, North Posey, North Putnam, North- east Dubois, Salem, South Vermillion, Tri-County, Tri- West, Triton and Washing- ton. The top scoring Scho- lastic Class B band and the top scoring Scholastic Class A band will be named the Scholastic Class Champion for their respective divisions. Both champion bands will be invited to perform in exhibi- tion at Lucas Oil Stadium during the Open Class State Finals on Saturday, Nov. 3. "The students have put in a lot of hard work and are very excited for their up- coming performance," Ash- worth said. "Over the next two weeks, the band will be improving their show by fixing minor issues, adding more visual movements and adjusting forms. The band would also like to thank the community for their ongoing support." Seniors Ashley Dulworth and Maggie McDonald serve as drum majors for the 48 -member band, which in- cludes color guard and per- cussionists. This year's show is titled "Journey to the Red Planet," which is based on a seven- movement orchestral suite, "The Planets," that was writ- ten by British composer Gus- tov Holst between 1914 and 1916. Each of the seven move- ments of Holst's suite are named after a planet of the Solar System – Mars, Ve- nus, Mercury, Jupiter, Sat- urn, Uranus and Neptune – and its corresponding astro- logical character.
