Junior Audrey Keepes led Pike Central in kills with five while junior Becca Crow had four kills and 11 set-assists. Seniors Kylie Dawson and Alyssa Jenkins added three kills each. Jenkins also had two blocks. Senior Kenzie Dunn had a team-high 10 digs while Keepes and sophomore Ken- zie Powell added seven digs each. Taylor Lamey had six digs. The Lady Chargers scored the first two points of the first set, including one on an ace serve by se- nior Taylor Lamey, before Gibson Southern rolled off six consecutive points to take a 6 -2 lead. Pike Central would close to within two points five times – at 9 -7, 10 -8, 11-9, 12- 10 and 14-12 – before the La- dy Titans scored six of seven points to extend their lead to 20 -13. The Lady Chargers an- swered with a 3-0 run of their own to pull to within 20 -16 but could get no clos- er as Gibson Southern held on to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five match. In the second set, after the Lady Titans jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Pike Cen- tral would cut the deficit to one point twice – at 3-2 and 4-3 – before Gibson South- ern scored three straight points, including one each on kills by Riggs and junior Meredith Raley, to stretch its lead to 7-3. The Lady Chargers would close to within three points – at 7-4, 8 -5, 9 -6, 11-8, 16 - 13 and 18 -15 – but Gibson Southern scored seven of the next eight points to win the second set and take a 2- 0 lead. A fter the Lady Titans scored the first four points of the third set following serves by junior Nicole Tretter, Pike Central rolled off three straight points, in- cluding two following serves by Taylor Lamey, to close to within 4-3. However, Gibson South- ern answered with a 6 -0 scoring spurt – netting five points following serves by junior Hallie Fleetwood – to extend its lead to 10 -3. A fter Pike Central scored to cut the deficit to 10 -4, the Lady Titans scored four straight points, including one on an ace serve by Nie- haus, to stretch their lead to 14-4. Then, leading 14-5, Gib- son Southern rolled off sev- en consecutive points, in- cluding four on ace serves by senior Whitney Norris, to extend the Lady Titans' lead to 21-5. Pike Central would close to within 21-16 and 22-7 be- fore Gibson Southern scored three straight points – the fi- nal one on a kill by Niehaus – to finish off the match. Raley added six kills for Gibson Southern while Nie- haus had a team-high five ace serves and two blocks. With the loss, the Lady Chargers fell to 11-17 over- all and 1-6 in the Pocket Ath- letic Conference. In the junior varsity match, Pike Central fresh- man Erika Vinnedge scored a team-high 10 points – on four ace serves, five kills and one block – as the Lady Chargers dropped a 25 -22, 25 -23 loss to Gibson South- ern. The Lady Chargers scored the first seven points of the first set, including six following serves by sopho- more Riley Morgan, to take a 7-0 lead. A fter the Lady Titans scored three straight points to pull to within 7-3, Pike Central answered with three points of its own, including two following serves by Pow- ell, to extend its lead to 10 -3. The two teams would trade points until Gibson Southern – trailing 12-5 – scored back-to-back points to cut the deficit to 12-7. With the Lady Chargers holding a 14-8 lead, Gibson Southern began chipping away, scoring four straight points to cut the deficit to 14-12. A fter Pike Central scored on a kill by Morgan to extend its lead to 15 -12, the Lady Titans went on a 3- 0 scoring run to pull even at 15 -15. Following ties at 16 -16, 18 -18, 19 -19, 20 -20 and 22- 22, Gibson Southern scored three straight points to cap off the first-set win. In the second set, the Lady Chargers trailed 18 - 17 when they scored three straight points, including one on a kill by Vinnedge, to take a 20 -18 lead. Gibson Southern subse- quently scored five straight points to surge ahead 23-20. Pike Central pulled to within one point – at 24-23 – before the Lady Titans scored the match-winning point. CASTLE: In the La- dy Chargers' first match, Castle won the best-of- three match in two sets, 25 -6, 25 -12. Sophomores Neeley Cor- rell (two ace serves) and Lily Willis (one ace serve and one kill) scored two points each for Pike Cen- tral. Sophomore Kenzie Powell had one set-assist. Sophomore Addie John- son had a team-high seven digs while Powell and soph- omore Shelby Ridao added five and four, respective- ly. Correll and freshman Alaina McClellan both had three digs. FOREST PARK: The Lady Chargers took host Forest Park to three sets before dropping a 25 -22, 23-25, 15 -12 loss. Pike Central freshman Erika Vinnedge (one ace serve, five kills and two blocks) scored a team-high eight points while Johnson (one ace serve, five kills and one block) scored sev- en points. Powell (one ace serve and five kills) scored six points to go along with 10 set-assists and 15 digs. Correll (one ace serve and four kills) scored five points. Willis (two ace serves and one kill) and sophomore Maddie Wil- liams (two ace serves and one kill) tallied three points each while sopho- mores Riley Morgan (two ace serves) and Shelby Rid- ao (two kills) and fresh- man Madison Riley (two ace serves) had two points each. Morgan also had 14 digs while Johnson added 12. JASPER: Correll (two kills) and Vinnedge (one kill and one block) scored two points each in a 25 -12, 25 -16 loss to Jasper. Morgan had the Lady Chargers' only ace serve while Johnson, Powell and Willis had one kill each. Powell also led Pike Cen- tral with four set-assists and nine digs. Correll and Ridao had three digs each. Lady Charger netters end regular season with four-set loss to Heritage Hills The Pike Central High School volleyball team end- ed its regular season with a 25 -8, 24-26, 25 -11, 25 -12 loss to visiting Heritage Hills on Thursday, Oct. 4. Senior Alyssa Jenkins had one block, 10 kills and two digs while senior Kylie Dawson added eight kills, one block and 15 digs as the Lady Chargers fell to 11-18 overall and 1-7 in the Pocket Athletic Conference. Pike Central senior Bec- ca Crow had five kills and 13 digs while dishing out 20 set-assists; senior Ken- zie Dunn had one kill and 14 digs; and senior Taylor Lamey had one kill, one block and 11 digs; and se- nior Kylee Shoultz had one set-assist and nine digs. In addition, Lady Char- gers junior Audrey Keepes had one ace serve, four kills, one block-assist and 13 digs; junior Karsyn Pipes had two ace serves, two kills, one block and one set-assist; ju- nior Aubrie Dawson had one ace serve, one block-assist and 11 digs; and sophomore Kaila Lamey had one dig. "I was really hoping to get this win, especially on Se- nior Night, and to end the regular season with a W," Pike Central head coach Brandi Chestnut said. "I want to thank the senior girls for all their hard work and dedication and commit- ment to this program for the last four years." Freshman Shelby Skelt- on led Heritage Hills with four ace serves, 11 kills and two block-assists while sophomore Rebekah Gor- don added 10 kills and two block-assists. Sophomore Lilly Vance led the Lady Patriots – who improved to 12-16 overall and 4-4 in the PAC – with 12 kills, and ju- nior Hannah Schnuck had five ace serves. In the junior varsity match, Pike Central soph- omore Addie Johnson (one ace serve and five kills) and freshman teammate Erika Vinnedge (five kills and one block) scored a team-high six points each in a 25 -24, 25 -24 loss to Heritage Hills. Sophomore Neeley Cor- rell netted five points on two ace serves and three kills while sophomores Ri- ley Morgan (two kills) and Kenzie Powell (two kills) and freshman Alaina Mc- Clellan (two ace serves) scored two points each. Trailing 20 -15 in the first set, the Lady Chargers scored six straight points – including five following serves by Johnson – to take a 21-20 lead. A fter Heritage Hills tal- lied three consecutive points to surge ahead 24- 21, Pike Central answered with a 3-0 run of its own – scoring two points following serves by Morgan – before the Lady Patriots scored the set-winning point to take a 1-0 lead in the best of three match. In the second set, the La- dy Chargers fell behind 14-6 before scoring 12 of the next 15 points – including three following serves by Willis and three following serves by Powell – to take an 18 - 17 lead. Heritage Hills rallied, scoring three straight points to take a 20 -18 lead, but Pike Central scored back-to-back points – includ- ing one on a kill by Johnson – to pull even at 20 -20. A fter the Lady Patriots went on a 3-0 run to take a 23-20 lead, Pike Central ral- lied with a 3-0 run of its own – scoring one point each on a kill by Johnson and an ace serve by Correll – to tie the score at 23-23. Heritage Hills would score two of the next three points to complete the two- set victory. Pike Central will host the sectional tournament, which begins on Thursday, Oct. 11, when Princeton and Vincennes Lincoln will square off in a first-round contest at 7 p.m. The Lady Chargers will host defending sectional champion Sullivan in the first of two semifinal match- es on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m., with the second semi- final match – pitting the winner of Thursday night's Princeton-Vincennes Lin- coln match against Wash- ington – is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. The semifinal winners will face off in the champi- onship match set for Satur- day, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. See SWEPT on 8
