Exhibit of the Month: 'ONtheEDGE'
About Audrie Sturman
Contributed
Clockwise from top: 'Birth Blue,'
shell drawing; flower sculpture;
carved flower box; 'Wind,' relief; and
'Where Heavens Met the Water,' all
by artist Audrie Sturman.
"Using nature and the rhythms in nature as a springboard, Audrie's
abstractions group and unite space. Extremely experimental both in
the materials she uses — clays, papers and cement — she sometimes
tries to defy gravity. Friends have often said, 'Audrie likes to live
on the edge.' While complex problems and catastrophes sometimes happen, Audrie likes to push and stretch forms and materials.
Though her work is spontaneous, small models often serve as a guide
and inspiration for a whole related series, leading to large groupings. The forms are interconnected metaphysically as well as physically to each other and to nature."
