Basic Medic First Aid® with AED - Medic First Aid® with AED (automated external defibrillator) is a basic training course in emergency care designed for use in the business/industrial setting. Cardiopulmo- nary resuscitation (CPR), AED use, and other important emergency care skills are combined into this course, which allows the graduate to function with one consis- tent set of priorities in a medical emergency. Students learn the same priorities of care and approach to the patient used by professionals. This approach results in a continuity of care as the patient is passed on to the EMT, nurse, and doctor. Successful completion of the course means the stu- dent has acquired these skills, understands the dangers of an emergency scene and how to evaluate them, and understands the use of protective barriers. Taught by nationally certified instructors, the course satisfies OS - HA requirements for industry and business. A Medic First Aid® with AED course will be offered Tuesday, August 21 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Health and Wellness Classroom at Memorial Southside Office, 1100 West 12th Avenue in Jasper. McKinney arrested on battery charge after property dispute By Andy Heuring A rural Winslow man was arrested last Monday on a charge of battery af- ter a dispute erupted over trees being cut down along a property line. Dale McKinney, 77, of 4503 S. CR175E, Winslow was arrested by In- diana Master Trooper Paul Bastin. Trooper Bastin said he was called to CR550S to check on a complaint by Charla Guthrie. She told him she heard chainsaws running and when she went outside to investigate, she found nu- merous trees had been downed and were laying across her driveway from an adjoining property. According to Bastin's probable cause affidavit, she said she talked with the crews and asked them to get the trees off her driveway right away. She said while she was still talking with the cutting crew, McKinney, who was overseeing the project, drove up at a high rate of speed and began walking onto her property, shouting. According to Trooper Bastin's re- port, she said she told McKinney to leave her property, but he told her to shut up and go back into her house. She said as they continued to argue McKinney grabbed her by the arm and pulled her across the driveway onto the adjoining property before she was able to break free of his grasp. The affida- vit says Ronald Lemond pulled up and told McKinney not to grab her again, and she went into her house crying and called police. Bastin's report said Lemond said he was taking his trash to the dumpster and was blocked by the trees across the driveway, and he saw McKinney and Guthrie arguing, then he saw McKinney grab Guthrie's arm in an at- tempt to pull her to the other property. Trooper Bastin in the affidavit said when he interviewed McKinney, McK- inney said Guthrie was making a big deal out of the trees being cut down. He said he did not grab Guthrie, that all he did was place his finger on her shoulder. He claimed Guthrie and Lemond were liars and began talking about the property lines and trees. McKinney was arrested on August 11 on a warrant on a charge of battery.
