Winslow's Patoka River is the low- est this year, and with hardly no rain in Winslow since we got some drizzle the last of July. The temps are in the high 80s to low 90s again with the high hu- midity, and even the nights have been humid with temps 68 to 70 degrees. Even though we had no rain to keep the grass growing, it somehow grows faster. Norm has mowed twice this past week. Then we heard about the mosqui- toes in Pike County that carry the West Nile Virus, so keeping the grass cut low to help keep those blood sucking varmints almost under control. They are vicious in our area of town. In the Brownstown part of Winslow, there was a couple, out of town, look- ing for their daughter and her family that moved into this area. Mrs. Sand- ers and the both of us helped them by talking to several stars in town and in no time, their family was found and on- ly a block away. They were so grate- ful for the help, and as Mrs. Sanders said, that's the right thing to do in our friendly town. When we left our area last Wednes- day, we saw on Factory St. there were signs up in the middle of the street and water flooding down the street. Come to find out the town workers were trying to find a leak on Factory and 2nd, and I believe they have that problem fixed. That day when we left town, we saw our daughter, in person, and she is still working long hours, but she does it for the clients. She also showed us her new car engine, and also last Monday she had to call her mechanic again to pick up her car because of a bad vibration. She has her car again, and she hopes her bad luck will fi- nally be gone. Norm and I finally got the wood in Dee Warner's yard, and we decided to roll the large pieces down the hill, and then load it into the truck. I started rolling some, but as I did one piece rolled down the hill, under the fence and into Factory St. A fter that, I decided to let Norm take over, and I helped in another way. We had some stars help load a few into the truck, and it was a really big help, especially on a humid day. It's all cut up and stacked for that winter weather. Thank you, Dee! Friday we met up with Jenny, who had two trees that fell, and thought we might want the wood. Yes, we will start on that soon. Thank you. All Pike County Schools have be- gun the 2018 -19 session, and on Face- book we got to see quite a few stars who are in a new grade. Several stars be- gan their first full day of school. They all had smiles, and I hope those smiles continue all year, and they love school as much as I did. The old Curtis Funeral Home was sold and is now the Freedom and Fire church, where the couple has plans to help out our town. They are also friend- ly folks. Talked to George Bruce, and on Ju- ly 21, the House of Mercy gave away 55 back-to-school supplies. They have do- ne this kindness for several years here in Winslow. Next week, I will talk to you about the 77th Poehlein Reunion that was August 12, and any other ramblings going on in our friendly little Town of Winslow. As the lights begin to dim, keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see all the wonders in your area. Stop for school buses and watch out for all our kids. As always, smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS Judi W. Bryant, FK A Judy W. Bryant, Joann Slaven Willis and Jill A. Harris convey to Randy S.
